Question Yet another flooding question

I have the common flooding problem. Occasionally the only way to get the car to start is by performing the flood clearing procedure.

I am wondering how many people have cured this by replacing the injectors and nothing else?

Has anyone out there had this problem in the past and swapped injectors only? If so, did that solve the problem?

I know about the Mazdatrix add on, and I also know about the fuel pump switch trick. Rather than doing those, I am thinking about replacing the injectors.

Try installing a fuel kill switch.

Under the dash to the right of the steering column is a relay. Cut the middle wire (it's a black and white wire) going to the relay and route it to a toggle switch. (at least on 86-88 RX-7s)

Flip the switch off to shut off your car.....than flip it on right before you start it.

Fool proof anti flooding

It worked wonders for my car

Chances are VERY good that it is injector related and nothing else.
Having said that, a couple of thoughts...
If you are able to remove them yourself for replacement/cleaning, you have options:

Yes, you can replace them. But it's the expensive way to go, and may well be unnecessary.

Yes, you can install the fuel cut off switch, but to me, that is not solving the problem, just a way around it.

Yes, you can send the injectors out, which is a good idea, except for the expense (not bad at all really) and the down time while waiting to get them back.

Or, you can remove them and shoot carb cleaner through them.(Or even better a similar product called Gumoff (sp?) intended for injection parts). Just rig 12 volts with a switch, attach to the injector connectors and spray cleaner through the injector while activating and de-activating the switch. (Don't leave power on the injector for more then a half-second at a time.)

I did this about 8 years ago when I was flooding twice a week for a couple of weeks and it has started every time since. Power to and above redline is great. Would it be better if I had sent them out to be cleaned? Maybe, but I would have done so after my cleaning if it didn't feel right.

Just my experience with flooding,
-John.

Thanks FJ for sharing your experience. I am of the same mindset, I don't want to add switches, gadgets, and the like that do not address the problem, but attempt to mask it.

I will try cleaning the injectors at home with a makeshift injector driver and a can of gumout. (I'm assuming you meant Gumout instead of Gumoff)
