Which year 626 alt. in a S5?

Which year 626 alt. in a S5?
I was looking at an FD alt. thread and saw mention that a 626 alt. works as well. Which year ranges? Looking on Rock Auto and Autozone it looks like the 95 V6 626 is identical to the FD save for it is only 90 amps and is cheaper. Can get a new 626 for what a reman fd costs. Also if IIRC fd alt on a S5 is plug and play as far as electronics go. I know I have to sort out the pulley on either the fd or 626. Thanks.

My alt. died and the one I put on from my parts car's output is only 12.9v even at say 3k rpm so I'm on the hunt to replace it.

Why not just go Taurus then . Get 130amp out of them . And are cheaper ( for me through work anyway) . If your looking for the best bang for the buck that's what I would do . Here's mine with the comso serp pulley set up

Mazda uses the same wiring on basically every alternator from 81-88, and then 89+. the only gotcha with the 99+ up units is that they are externally regulated

This is why I may use the 626. I don't want to have to spend any time modifying anything other than maybe my pulley, but Mazdatrix has an off the shelf option for that, and it comes in pretty colors( if the 626 shaft is the same 17mm shaft dia. as the FD.

they must have a chart of AMPs to belt torque to alternator shaft size, because they all pretty much fall in line with each other. or if you read that the other way the V belt is ok good up to a certain number of amps, which would be around 80ish

I actually didn't have to do anything besides find a bigger spacer and longer bolt . Stock adjuster slider . There's only been a few people that rotated the Taurus alt like me . Most weld new brackets which works just as good I just wanted something that was easy to swap out and a good upgrade from the stock s4 80 .

I guess I should've went to the junkyard but I've had so much going on last week and this week I didn't have the time. I got one coming from Rockauto though.

I see . Didn't think about that . I got my pulley setup with fd alt to upgrade from the s4 v belt a few years back . Well the alt was bad from the jump . So when I put this Taurus alt on the pulley fit already on the shaft .

I got my alternator and installed it over the weekend. Ran into one issue but I don't know if it is because it was a new one and not an oem part. The post for the B terminal because it came out and ran like a Z shape across the back hit my intake manifold. I just swapped it with the straight one from my stock one and then everything went together fine. I used the Mazdatrix pulley. Once I get the pics. off my phone I'll post them up either here or I may do a how to thread.

oneI guess I should of went to the junkyard. The Remy one from Rockauto has died. V6 MX6 uses the same one according to car-part.com. Picking one up from the junkyard tomorrow. I still need to post pictures.

The output current is higher on the FD/626 alt. The FD is 100 amps. 626 is 90 amps. The S5 is 80 amps and the S4 is 70 amps. S4 is not plug and play like the S5 though.

No. People put them on the S4 as well. You'll just have to search to find out how as I don't know the details as I have a S5. It's the plug on the alternator that is different so something has to be rewired. There's a wiring diagram in a thread on here somewhere. As far as I know it bolts on just fine.
