wtf is this thing?

Probing around my engine bay, I found this little guy, plugged into a 6-pin connector hanging our near the trailing coil pack. It's jumping two pins together, and with it unplugged (i.e. removed) the car wont start; no clicks, nothing. There is power, just seemingly no power to either the ignition or the starter without this guy attached.... any ideas?

That plug is for the factory alarm/starter kill relay. Someone has jumped it to eliminate whatever problem they were having.

Cars without alarms have a jumper of somekind there anyway, so it's not wrong, just done ghetto.

Yes, that underhood is ready for a little simple green...

That's how it came from the factory (the plug that is). B/G wire comes from the Interlock switch or Ignition switch and the B/W wire runs towards the starter solenoid.

Another interesting tidbit of info regarding that plug:

IF you remove the BLUE plug, you can then jump positive voltage from the battery to the BLACK/WHITE wire in the other half of the plug and the starter will turn over. No key required. Also no start unless the key is to ON.

The BLUE jumper plug replaces the Starter Cut Relay that is found on cars with factory THEFT. Kind of what was said above but with a little more information. It's a useful tool when working on the engine.
I haven't tried it myself, but I trust Hailers.

Actually, i've used this a number of times when trying to get a non-starting car to turn over. it makes for checking injector pulse and timing agjustment alot easier, at least when your alone. i'm so alone.

The blue jumper plug attaches to the electrical connector for the STARTER CUT RELAY. The Starter Cut Relay only exists on cars with factory alarm.........so Mazda made a jumper plug to connect the elect circuit b/t the clutch interlock switch and the starter solenod.

Rocket88 posted a thread on how to add a non factory relay to that plug to overcome starter problems. Problems where you turn the key to Start and get a click......and try and try and try again getting only a click.......and finally the starter turns over and the car sometimes actually starts.

YOu can pull that blue plug off the connector and then get a piece of wire to jumper b/ the batterys positive post to the large black/white wire in that connector. The starter should turn over if the starter is any damn good. Car out of gear when doing so.

It's located below and in the area of the trai coil assy on cars without factory theft systems.

yes, and you attach a wire to battery positive, and run that over to this plug. instant starter ingaugement. it's also handing for checking compression on a motor in the junk yard when you have no key.

Interesting, I recently found out I do gabe the alarm (no center console when I got the car) , it takes 3 tries to start, I suspect this (or more accurately, what its made to bypass is the problem).

What kind of junk yard leaves the batteries in the cars?

So your car has the factory alarm and you want to bypass it with regards to the starting circuit? At the Starter Cut relay you would jumper the thicker of the two Black/Green wires to the Black/White wire. The plug to the relay could be removed if the relay is to be bypassed.

I would prefer to keep the alarm features functional while not having to pump the clutch 3 times to start it....ideally

I'd first do a quick bypass of the clutch switch to be sure it's not the culprit, but if the problem still exists you can try what I did:

https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...9&postcount=39

It's been 9 months since adding this relay, and it has started every time.
