Why would you? It's completely the wrong shape so it won't receive proper airflow from the hood scoop, plus it flows worse than the stock IC.

I would second this. The WRX intercooler is wider and would not fit.

I've seriously thought about it. It would take some custom fitting. It apparently has a greater heatsink effect and allows for a better flow rate.

Its a lot wider and shorter too. More of a rectangle but the FC's intercooler has a fairly squarish shape. I doubt it will fit under the hood.

The inside of the T-II intercooler is actually quite nice. It has turbulators from the factory which is something not even many aftermarket intercoolers have.

Here are the results of a recent OEM intercooler test performed by AutoSpeed. The airflows were measured at 28inH2O (1psi) air pressure.

Mazda RX-7 Series 4 13B
Flow - Direction A (air entering longer pipe) 212 cfm (equal 11th)
Direction B (air exiting longer pipe) 202.4 cfm
Mass - 2.0kg (equal 17th overall)
Core Measurements - 29 x 16.3 x 6.2cm = 2931cm3 (equal 13th overall)

Mazda RX-7 Series 5 13B Turbo
Flow - Direction A (air entering longer pipe) 238.5 cfm (7th overall)
Direction B (air exiting longer pipe) 231.3 cfm
Mass - 2.0kg (equal 17th overall)
Core Measurements - 29 x 16.3 x 6.3cm = 2931cm3 (equal 13th overall)

Subaru STi Version 2 (MY94-96)
Flow - Direction A only (air entering bolt-on pipe) 224.2 cfm with bolt-on pipe attached (10th overall)
Mass - 2.8kg (10th overall)
Core Measurements - 40 x 11.5 x 6.2cm = 2852cm3 (15th overall)

So the STi intercooler (not the standard WRX intercooler) weighs more (better heatsinking), and flows a bit more than an S4 IC and a bit less than a S5 one. The regular WRX IC would be worse. So there's very little (if any) improvement potential. And there's absolutely no way to to make it work properly with the hood scoop. Only 3/4 of the core would receive airflow.

This idea is a complete waste of time. There are far better cores to consider and they should be mounted out front anyway.

Wait, isn't this where the thread needs to be locked?
