wouldn't rev past 4k, died

i took my 88 vert out of winter storage where it sat for about 5 months. she started and has been running fine for about two weeks. today i take her out for a drive and after sitting at a red light she won't rev past 4k. i pull over and slowly rev the engine, got to about 5.5k before she bogged down but the idle was smooth and on point so i try to hobble back home, but as im driving im getting less and less rpms until finally she died completely. the car was bucking like mad as i was driving, like it was fighting to keep the engine from winding up. anyway its not starting at all now. she wants to turn over but doesn't. i was thinking maybe the gas went bad (at most the gas is 6 months old) and is clogging a hose or busted the fuel pump. i've searched the site and have a lot of ideas, but i haven't found any threads with my cars symptoms. most cars i've searched start and idle fine but hesitate under load. i'm not incredibly mechanically inclined but if anyone has been through this before and has an idea i'm all ears.
