Question Would you get this 1987?

Hey all, new member here - first post. Love RX7's and I have an opportunity to get a Gen 2 shell (and I mean shell) for what I think is an extremely low investment. I've added a picture and a video for context. I work at a shop, and this would be my first full build, including a new engine and trans (probably not a rotary - I'm positive this is flame worthy and sacrilegious... sorry!) The body is super straight, and aside from that it has a steering wheel, all 4 OEM wheels, suspension, and pedals. NOTHING ELSE.

I have a couple of questions...

1. Is $900 a good deal for this in it's current condition? Would you get it?

2. I already know I'm biting off a LOT with this project, but as I said, I have all the tools I could need - a shop full - , a lift, and every machine a good shop has. Plus a TON of seasoned technicians that can assist me when needed.

3. What would be a good swap? I'm leaning towards and LS1/LS3. I've seen it done, and my ultimate goal is an awesome looking AutoX build.

Thank you for your insight! I look forward to checking out all of your builds!

If you're just looking at building a racecar (and therefore don't need full interior, speakers, etc) then that would be a reasonable price for a rolling shell near me.

As for swaps, LS is sort of the easy button for cheap and reliable power. Other options are 13BT (probably not what you want since it's a rotary), some people have done 1JZ, there's a guy on Grassroots Motorsports doing a VQ35 (completely custom though). I've been thinking a K series swap would be cool, although I know I'll never put a piston engine in my Rx7 personally. What I'm getting at is you can basically do anything depending on skill level, but LS has the most off-the-shelf parts available.

Whatever you do, post a build thread about it

Yeah, kind of my thoughts exactly. As for what I'm doing, yes - 90% race car, the only creature comforts would be power steering and some interior parts just for a little aesthetic. I have also toyed around doing a JZ or an RB swap. Honestly though, as you said, parts availability and cheap power is LS territory. I work at a GM shop and it makes the most sense as I can get replacement/spare parts cheap. The sweet thing about atleast this Gen, is I have read that the lug pattern is the same as Mustangs? I guess what I'm looking for here is justification lol. I'm making a trade for something that I have about $900 in to.

The lug pattern is 5x114.3, so if that's what Mustangs run then yes. In general it's a very common wheel pattern.
