How much to swap engine into a shell?

I was looking around and saw a 1993 Mazda RX7 rolling chassis and shell for sale locally. I was curious what kind of costs are involved in getting a professional shop in the MA area to do a swap into the car.

I am curious about both the 13b rew and also a v8 of some sort. If anyone has any ideas of anyone who would do this or who to turn to for more info that would be great. thanks

Dude, seriously - thats the dumbest question ever. Thats like saying "i have a car, i want to put some wheels and some suspension and a fuel computer on it how much is it going to cost me?"

The answer is, alot. Everything costs alot with FD's. But the sky is the limit really...and we cant give you the lower limit because youve asked such a dumb generic question.

If you cant do the work, a V8 is going to cost you alot. ****, if you cant do the work, even a 13b is going to cost you alot.

Best thing is to call a local shop and ask.

Agreed with audiobot. There are lots of rotary shops around. CAll one in your area and start getting ballpark figures.

Man, I don't know about this. It's one thing to start with a car that is complete, but to buy a chassis that you can't really check the condition of and invest alot of money in putting in a longblock. I can't imagine that it would be worth it. It would probably end up costing more than starting with a running car.

Wow...other than audiobot, these are all kind of hostile and unhelpful answers.

Like he said, call around and find out prices. Different shops charge different labor.

As far as starting out with a shell, that's not always a bad idea assuming you get a good deal on it. You check it out and if it seems to be in good condition, sometimes buying a 5,000 or less dollar shell and throwing a motor in it is a great deal!

Look into BPR. I believe they are in Salem, which is pretty close to you in Lowell.

EDIT: Looks like I have their number in my phone for some reason - 978.740.8855

If you weren't so far from me I'd offer to swap a V8 in your car for a good price. Being one of few on here who have actually bought a shell and built it from the ground up, I can say that it's fun, you have pride in your accomplishment, and you want to rip your hair out sometimes. Good luck with it.
