My First "Official" Build

Hey guys! Im new to the RX7 forums and the car platform itself. I picked up my first Mazda about 2 weeks ago. Its a 1987 RX-7. It is the GTU- N/A edition and it is just a rolling shell. My plans for the car are big, but the budget is small. Considering I didnt pay anything for the car its not a bad start.

So far I have stripped everything out of the car other than the suspension, I am in the process of fabricating a new brake system from scratch, and re-engineering the suspension a little. The car came with new MazdaSpeed Control Arms, Swaybars, and mounting brackets with adjustable endlinks. I was also given a set of brand new 15x7" BBS RS 3 piece meshies.

So here comes the part I'm worried about getting into on a true Rotary Enthusiast website.. I also happen to have an LS1 with T-56 trans I'm planning on dropping in...

So what do ya think? Its not much now but it will get there.. I hope..

Good luck on the build...While I am a purist about the rotaries I'm not gonna hate on ya. Work with what you got I guess. A lot of people have done swaps here so you might not get that much flack.

Yea, I would much rather do a 20B swap but considering my budget limitations and the fact I picked up the entire swap for around $4,000 I think I made out decent.. I'm gonna need some help though..

And I am also not too familiar with drifting, I'm a Club Racing kinda guy but I guess I can give it a shot?

Ive considered a v8 swap a number of times... but I just love the rotaries too much to do one. But good luck with it, you will have a mean machine when you are through! There's actually a specific forum for just these kinds of swaps, v8rx7.com

Those guys can really give you some good info!

I think you'll get a better reception and find more pertinent info here.

BTW, properly done, the swap you're doing makes for a totally kick-*** car.

The LS1 into a FC shell conversion is actually pretty easy. Grannys speed shop sells all the mounts, the driveshaft, EVERYTHING needed to do the swap. I think they even have a tutorial online with a step-by-step for installing it.

Check their site out, it has everything you should need for doing the swap. http://www.grannysspeedshop.com/
