would CO2 on intercooler crack it?

My stock TMIC seems to get heat soaked very quickly, so i am considering making a C02 sprayer for the intercooler. Will spraying CO2 directly on the intercooler when its hot cause it to crack or adversely affect any other engine componets? I was thinking about getting a nitrous purge kit and modifying it to spray CO2 from some tubing on the intercooler. Would this work better than nitrous? i know it would be a hell of a lot cheaper. Also, does anyone know where i can get an intake temp guage?

If im read you correctly. You want to decrease the temps on you intercooler. Add, something cold, to a hot piece of metal is not a good idea.

deapends how much you use....try to make it so it dose not directly hit the intercooler.........you want to mist it over the whole thing.......and yes it mite freez it and crack it.....if you have ever played paintball then you you know what i am talking about

....They use N2O on intercoolers quite often, I see no reason why CO2 would be any worse for it (and it'd be a LOT cheaper). Take a look around, I do believe there are already kits to do exactly what you're wanting to-

Sounds cool but I'd like to see some proven results. If it lowered temps that dramatically and could be bought as a kit for like $400 wouldn't more people be using these?

people dont want to mess with it....and kits are more money...but if you do it yourself you can do it for like 100* or so..deapends how well you want it done...i plan on doing it..it is good for street racing and 1/4mile(short distance stuff)....and it dose make it a lot colder....it has frozen my fingers before..i cant wait to get my car running so i can do this.....after playing paintball for a long time this would be easy to set up...alos i know people that set it up so they spray water on there intercooler...water is a good heat transfer.....if you want to know how to set that up let me know

yea, i have a bunch of 20 oz canisters from paintballin, and can get them filled for free. I might have it done this week or next. I figure even if i crack my stock intercooler, i can get another one for like 30 bucks. ill let you know how it works out

Well maybe you could spray some on before a run when the intercooler shouldn't be too hot. Then it would cool it down so when you spray it while running it wouldn't have the chance to crack it. I dunno, just an idea.

how long of a spray do you think you will do. If you let it empty the whole bottle(20oz) then it would freez it and you would have a better chance of cracking it.....if i where you i would spray it for like 10-20 sec while the car is off just to see how cold it gets.

Liquid CO2 would be a poor idea to get on your engine and turbo hot bits...

And not a power adder when sucked in your intake...

Have you seen the self contained CO2 N2O heat exchangers kits? Different from dumping fluid on hot components.

I don't like these either, though.

Upgrade to a BLUE TII mount IC

Intercooler is above intake, CO2 is heavier than air. It could flow down the hood slope right into the intake tract.

I rigged this up on my old Nitrous-equipped S5 TII, with stock TMIC. I built a small circuit board which purged nitrous through a sprar bar through my intercooler whenever 10 psi was hit (using a 10 psi hobbs switch), or whenever the nitrous system was engaged. The simple 555 timer circuit activated the purge for 1 second every 10 seconds. After a hard run up to redline in 4th, and pulling over and disabling the nitrous system, there was frost formed between the intercooler fins.

There was also a very decent power increase to go along with the purge of N20. After all, it does come out at -132 degrees fahrenheit.

For a system created merely to make use of otherwise wasted nitrous, I was extremely pleased with the results.

There is no way this would ever happen.

When the car is stopped:
If the hood is closed, and you spray from the bottom up, then the spray will come out the hood-scoop.
If you spray down, the air will rush out the back, and flow down towards the transmission tunnel.

When the car is moving:
Add the fan wash into the movement of gas molecules around the engine and there is no way CO2 is just going to "float" towards the front of the car.

Hmm.... Where are you from? I've seen 3-4 guys running around with large FMICs on Supras/DSMs around my town running these setups for a year or two now... They work similiar to aquamist systems, except the water systems aren't legal on NHRA spec tracks (fluid on the track), so they went to compessed gas systems to cool them between runs/at the line-
