heh. belive it or not (I don't call it rice, since all it's calling itself is a work car, and few could understand it anyway) I was going to put the Fujiwara Tofu Shop (private vehicle) sticker on after I made it a "panda" trueno

if i do what im thinking about.. making my FC into a compleate replica of Ryousuke Takahashi's FC from inital D we should hook up and drift each other!! that would be very crazy!! heh heh

the 86 is an awsome car for drifing i just dont think you can find one around here like you can an FC.... i've been looking and i've seen NOTHING... not to mention twin cam

FC is an amazing drift car....

I've heard that the AE86 isn't the best drifting car, it just has that reputation due to hype as it's a flexy, unbalanced machine. I think a 240SX or '7 would be a good introduction to the over-rated sport of "Drifting".

the reason people call it a good drift car is that it's not too powerful, so it's easy to control, but the weight is balanced nicely and it sort of "teaches" the driver. anyway fc3s drift guy, making Takahashi Ryosuke's car would be kinda difficult, if just for the sponsorship stickers, and the 350 HP

Yea why is everyone jumping on the "drifting" bandwagon. The 86 is actually pretty crappy. Its equipped with a shitty tranny, weak chassis and underpowered engine. A 240 or FC is definately a better platform to start with. But with the kinda mentality people are approaching it, I think they're better off with whatever they deem "superior". For example how does the 86 "teach" the driver in any way, shape or form? Sorry Zelgadiss, I dont mean to single you out but it seems like everyones buying into the 86's hype. It can be made into a pretty good car but I dont see it ahead of the FC or 240 in any area.

to answer your questiob, whcih car would you rather try to drift in first? a 128 HP corolla GT-S or a200 HP TII? I dunno about you, but for a beginner, the 86 is a great car.

Dont you think you're forgetting about the 140hp NA S4, or 140hp 240, what makes the 86 stand out?? Nothing.

I thought the Hachi had around 145hp. Am I wrong? My room mate has one and they're alot of fun to Auto-x ( He let me take it out a couple times). He also says that it drifts really easy... dunno.

The AE86 gt-s has a much more predictable power curve than an FC turbo. The torque is very low and stays consistent through the rpms. A predictable power curve would make the car easier to control. Also the hachi is much lighter than the FC. Stock it has 112 Hp I think?

Though I agree weak drivetrain and flexible chassis limit the cars power potential.

im going to agree with Ni5mo180SX on this one. the Hachi isnt a great drift car. i think some of these "new to drift" folks have seen one episonde too many of Initial D. corollas arent popular drift cars because theyre good at it, well they are capable but by no means do they excel at it. the reason most people, japan included, drift hachis is because they are cheap cars. cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, cheap to fix, etc, etc. they are throw away cars, meaning the drivers dont care when they run into stuff with them. dont get me wrong, they are cool cars. but im just tired of people coming up saying how bad they want to get a Roku, when the only reason they want it is because they think the one in Initial D is cool. if this **** keeps up im gonna have to stop drifting, cuz i dont want to be involved when this turns into "drift rice". and thats exactly where i see drifting headed with stuff like this comes along.

Flexible chassis is something a full rollcage and TRD race springs will cure.

FCDrifter-I agree on all parts, but I do think its a good drift car but no better then many others out there. The hype is really building around the 86 though. I also saw this same trend build around 240s.

RX7FC3S- I wasnt only refering to the chassis flexing but the chassis suffering from stress factures when equipped with roll cages

The 86 is definitely not a very fast car however it is quite fun and once you get the rev high around (6500-7300 rpm) it is actually pretty good since it is so light. BTW the stock hp is only, yes, 112hp. Only the JDM model has 130hp. From my experience owned both an 86 and FC, the 86 is definitely cheaper to maintain, and since you are going to drift with it you will break stuff. It will cost you less to repair an 86 than a FC.

Get the 86. It's cheaper and it gets MUCH more "slidey" in the rear.

The reson i say get a AE86 is because its Ghetto drifter style!!! you just do ghetto mods to it. you strip it. weld bars everywhere (rear stiffen that rear up) get soem cheap coil sleves and your good to go....well a weld on exhaust too cuz its odd drifting with stock...but the diff between the sr5 and gts that wasn't mentioned is the rear end.....the sr5 si from the AE85. it has drums and no one makes lsd for it. but hey thats fine! just weld the rear end. you will get so used to the motion of drift. This is what i say. Treat the AE86 like a Go Kart...thats me anyway

oh yeah if you suck at grip you will never drift. Griping is almost just as fun as drift the only time it isn't is when you become good nuff to tackle runs at the same speed you grip them. You guys don't worrie the drift trend will build up when
Initial D comes on Cartoon network. but then it will die down....
