Whats up guys,

I've been looking for a car that I can learn how to drift in and i think i've narrowed it down to eather a hachi-roku or FC3S.

Any opinions on which would be better/cheaper/easier would be great.

Another question, i know the stock hp on an 86 is ~130, but what is the stock # for a series 5 NA or Turbo? I don't have $$$ so i'll most likely be putting what I have into suspension/repairs, and was curious what the FC's power adevantage was.

If you want to keep it LOW COST. Go for the AE86, from my personal experience.

With any 2gen, you will need to replace the rear steer bushing, cost $$$ to install, suspension (most likely the one you get it is shot). With the AE86, regardless of its condidtion, will drift with out any probs. The difference in weight is night and day.

The s5 n/a have 160 hp and 140ft-lbs of torque. The s5 turbo IIs have 200 hp and 196ft-lbs of torque. If you want a good drift car the 86 is the ultimate. The only problem with the 86 is the lack of power so upgrading that some would help you drift better. I have also heard good things about RX-7s drifting but an 86 would be cheaper IMO.

What is the rear steer bushing, im not to familiar with the workings of FC's (i have an FD that i might turn into a drifter later, but right now don't want to run it into a telephone pole or guardrail)

FC's have rear steer - you need to eliminate this. It will not hurt driving performance around the street. Rear steer is for people that don't know how to drive their car (ie - majority of people).

Use a Mustang - that way when you total it, we won't have lost a good car .... :-)

the FC has the power and makes the better drift car. but the hachi makes the cheaper drift car. the corolla can slde well, but not as good as a tuned FC. the corolla is a great car to learn on, mostly because its cheap and it doesnt matter when you run into stuff with it. but the FC is the better car for sliding. in my T2 i can slide longer than the few hachis around here. the corolla is a total blast in the rain though. becomes a completley different car. much easier to slide it. anyways my advice if your learning to drift is get the corolla and take it out on rainy nights. that way its easier to start sliding and stay slididng. and when you curb it/wreck it, it wont matter because its a cheap corolla.

I think stock for stock the FC is the better buy. But only when it comes to Drifting. Not cost.

I dunno bout anyone else, but I tried to find a decent shape 86 anywhere withing 250 miles of me for almost 2 years, and none EVER popped up. not even the Levin (I was looking for a Trueno). the 86 costs less, but it's slightly difficult to find. One of these days I'll get my hachi-roku and swap the engine for a TRD racing engine...

Yes finding an AE86 is pretty damn hard to do. But if you can find one that would be fun.

ae86's are veryyyyyyyyyyyyy hard to find.. specially the twin cam models... In Puerto Rico.. theres a few and ive seen some here in Florida and back in New York too.. but if youre on a mission to find em.. first of all nobody wants to let them go... hatchbacks or coupes... they rare and second of all... u cant find em...

AE86 is not a cheap car up here in the PNW. I can find an FC for alot cheaper.

Is any corolla GTS an ae86? Ive been looking for one to have fun in winter and save my RX-7, I found a GTS Twin Cam about 70 miles from me for $1000. Is this what im looking for? I might get it

well i got a pal who is a licensed dealer and i told him LONG ago to hold onto any 86 corollas for me and after 3 or so years not ONE.. lol

are corolla sr5s the same as gts?

Nope, SR5 come with rear drums and not disk, the 4AC carburated engine and not the 4AGE, redline at I think 6k and not 7500. Crappy interior compared to the GTS but the rest of it's basically the same I think.....I'm sure there's some more things that are different but I can't think of them at the moment.



Red one's my daily driver, black one needs and engine, grey one is an SR5 parts car for whatever parts are interchangeable with the GTS.

The 4AC is also a single cam. The AE86 chasis code is for the 85-87 models including the hatch and coupe. AE92 would be referring to the newer FWD models. My friend owns one that he drifts.

yeah only the GTS is the twin cam model. the SR5 is pretty much junk in my opinon at least. the GTS is a pretty gutless car stock, the SR5 is totaly devoid. i know a guy thats got a little SR5 corolla that he tries to drift, it wont even stay stepped out in the rain. BTW fro those looking for levin models, too bad. all we got over here was trueno models. the ones with the flip up headlights.

my idea would be that the 86 is a great car and that you could possibly learn how to drift better being how small it is than if you started out in an fc but an fc is defenitely where its at when it comes to drifting
