broken braket?

ok here is the situation:
the car :1990 vert n/a auto (yes i know the slowest rx-7 ever made)
the problem: rattleing noise at idol

for a little over a month now my car has been making this little rattling noise whenever i idol. today i decide to take a look at it and see whats the problem. turns out the bracket for my air pump has broke in half right where it bolts on to the water pump. and now i am a little nurvus to drive it to work. i do plan on buying a new one for it but the ? is should i take the belt off to be a little safer even though this means there will only be one belt turning the water pump r leave it like it is and hope it dosen't **** anything up. NOTE: i have been driving it like this over a month and when ever the engine revs it just goes right back it to place there isn't realy a gap between the 2 peices just a crack.
any help will be apreaccited (sp?)

thanks shawn

edit: my ports still work and i want to keep it that way so please don't tell me just to remove it and wire them open

Cats gutted

If your cats are gutted you don't need the air pump. All the air pump does is pump air to your cats to burn off any unburned fuel. By removing your belt and air pump saves weight (very small) and give you less drag on engine meaining some HP advantage.

Have to check the manual. I think the ports work off the vacuum. My 86FC the air pump feed the cat directly. May have change on your year. Better look at your manual for verify.

The s5 6-ports and the VDI both need about 5psi from the air pump to work. I'm looking for a small electric pump to replace the stock one.
