wont start sometimes

alright i tried the search function already, but after a few hours of looking i couldnt find anything to answer my question so here goes... periodically when i go to start my car ('87) N/A the car turns over just fine but it wont start itll crank and crank, but nothing. i tried unflooding it, still didnt start . i pulled the plugs, there was no excessive gas to indicate flooding and it really wasnt acting like it had flooded anyways, so i put three of the plugs back in and leave one of the leading plugs out and ground it out to see if its sparking , so i turn the key and with a slight hesitation, the car fires right up. i shut it off put the plug back in and it fires right up it runs and starts perfect for a few days then one day it does the same thing. i pull a plug and crank it and it starts right up .so i have no idea what would cause this the plugs, wires, and coils are all brand new, even so, i checked them all with my multimeter theyre all fine. i thought maybe vapor lock (my t-bird does it all the time) so i poped the fuel lines, no release or hissing or anything. tried to start it and nothing. i popped off my starter and had it tested at napa, it checks out fine. so im completely lost at this point . i was wondering if maybe it could be the fuel presure sensor, but i dunno is this particular injection system has one and i cant find a book for it to find out. so its not flooded, it has good plugs and wires and coils , good starter , so what on earth could be causing this? im going insane trying to find the problem please help

It's flooding. Trust me. Try installing a fuel cut switch as temporary repair.

fuel cut off switch? do i just run a toggle switch to the power wire to the fuel pump? ill try this but i still have doubt about it flooding , because when i pull the plugs, there is usually no gas on them to indicate flooding. but thanks, ill try installing a cut off switch

You can connect to the fuel relay under the driver side dash. See Haynes or factory service manual for wiring.

Servicing the injectors. Rebuild it IF the engine has low compression. :-/

RC engineering, Cruising performance. Usually from 12-25 dollars per injector.

i have been having this same problem and i just had my injectors serviced and put them back in, i had been using the fuel cut off switch and it did help some but i still had the same problems. after injector replacement i got more power, but still have the not starting thing, my theory now is vapor lock

Hey Speed, you ever find the cause of that no start? Mines been doing that for three years and I'm convinced she aint flooding because the fuel kill switch does not help...

Talking fixed it

ok, it turned out that my fuel pump was bad it was putting out like 30 psi less then it should have, when i replaced the pump it fixed the no start prob, and it made the 3800 rpm hesitation go away COMPLETLY, so i recomend a fuel pressure test, if not up to specs, replace it. by the way, i think the problem was that the fuel lines were vapor locking, and the weak pump couldnt overcome it, a solution i used for a while untill i fixed it was to loosen the bolt on the back of the secondary fuel rail, gas vapor would bleed out, then i would crank the car over and it would usually start, i sometimes had to do it a couple of times, but it usually worked, but just do a fuel pressure test.
