Wont Start

Ok, So I have an 88GXL.

Lately Ive been having trouble from time to time getting it started. Well now it wont start at all. When I try to turn the engine over it seems like the engine is resisting turning. My first thought was battery but the battery is ok.

Anyone have any ideas from my poor description?

What's up, I am having troubles also, and just thoght I'd try to help you get your thread going. I think you need to describe a little more detail about what is going on with you car.
Has it been flooding lately?
Does the engine chug when you try to start it?
Did you get it to operating temps b/4 you cut it off last time?
Do you smell gas fumes? Actually strike that, you'll more than likely smell gas no matter what the problem unless it's your fuel pump.

If your car doesn't start more than likely it's flooded on top of whatever caused it not to start in the first place.

Ok now I have more than one minute.

My rx-7 has never flooded and I dont smell gas. I tried the unflooding procedure anyways to no avail.

I also thought it might be the starter. But when im cranking the engine all the belts are spinning means the flywheel is turning. So probably not the starter either. Its almost like there is no spark or gas. One or the either.

Im guessing my next step is to pull the plugs and see if there firing. If they are pull a fuel injector and see if gas is coming through.

Any other ideas?

Could be the fuel pump I suppose but thats not a common problem is it?

If the pulleys are turning, is it at a fast pace? If so you might want to check your compression my friend.

The pulleys are turning pretty quick but doesnt seem out of the ordinary. I have been having troubling starting it occaissionally before this happened and it would always run fine once it was started.

Since you mentioned your fuel pump, yes, that is a common problem. The wiring will corrode, and you won't get full voltage to the pump, making it either cut out completely, or just not send as much pressure as it should be. I'm sure if you search for "Fuel Pump Rewire" you'll find tons of information about that.

Is it cranking or just clicking when you turn the ignition key to start?
Since you said that the pulleys are turning Im guessing another person is cranking it. (this is weird, I've never watch my pulley if it spins or not when a car doesn't start.) usually fuel/spark/compresson. i don't see pulley/spark/fuel or some ****. Well anyway, if it's cranking i guess it's not the batt or starter.

I pulled the plugs today and they were really fowled up. I did do the unflood procedure but eh.. So I bought new plugs and starteer fluid and gas cleaner. After cranking on it for about a minute it final started to sputter then finally started. Im thinking it was either bad gas or the compression is low after all in one of the rotors.

The plan tomorrow is fresh tank of gas, then compression check.

was it cold that day? how long was it there without being turnd on for?
drop a little motor oil in the top spark plug holes to lub up the apex seal's and
do a compression test, you should get any thing around 70- 80 psi.
