IN wont idle

bought this 87 se cheap. guy said it sat for approx. 3 years and he didnt need or want it. i took it home and turned it over by hand to make sure it all moved freely. needless to say injectors were clogged up finally got it running but it will not run/idle by itself. it starts and revs up to 3000-4000 rpms then dies unless you give it throttle. has full power though just wont idle/run on its own. searched and searched forums and only found idle revving up and down..... appreciate any help. getting close to experiencing my first rotary and cant wait!

It's revving up to 3000 as part of the AWS, but when the solenoids close, there isn't enough air getting in to keep the engine turning.

I'd start with the simple stuff. Check TPS adjustment, and that the air filter is clean. Then move on to making sure the throttle body is clean and the butterfly valves aren't all gummed up and adjusted properly.

Clean gas is essential. Drain the tank then add clean fresh gas.
Even a few gallons of old stale gas can make the car run like crap.

^ Not only this...

But you mentioned that the injectors were clogged. Did you have them properly serviced??

Also, check for vacuum leaks. Make sure all of your lines are connected. There are quite a few so make sure you give it a good look around.

Sounds like big vacuum leak. Everything behind the air flow meter cannot have any leaks, or the air flow meter flap wont read correctly, thus wont idle.. If you can borrow a smoke evap machine, or just visually look for the leak. Maybe you didnt replace the Intake manifold gaskets, or re seal correctly when you replaced the injectors..
