Wiring an electric kill switch

Does anyone have experience wiring an external electrical kill switch on an '86 non-turbo race car? This switch has to kill the battery and ignition.

Can a Moderator move this to the racing section? I don't want to double post.

look on ebay for a battery cut-off switch. I had one on my old Street/Strip 82 Firebird with a 383

just make it cut off the power from the alternator. Look through the FSM to find the correct wire.

Thank you for the info that makes a lot more sense to me than having to wire it at the ignition.

Aren't there two and four wire switches? I would assume 2 being for just the battery cut off and the 4 for both?

You can't have it simply cut-off ignition. In order to be race-legal, the switch must disconnect power from the vehicle. (battery positive)

There are two and four wire switches. The two wire switches are generally used on cars running without an alternator (drag only vehicles). You would want to use a four-wire switch. This also means you have to run the alternator output wire to the back of the vehicle.
