Will a n/a bellhousing Bolt to a turbo tranny??

Im thinking about buying this t2 tranny but it doesnt have the bellhousing on it. I know that the belhousing bolt pattern is the same but does it bolt to the tranny the same? It looks a bit different and i dont want to buy it if i cant use my old bellhousing. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe it will. The TII trans is physically bigger then the N/A.

You may want to search a bit to confirm.

I have searched alot and not found anything. It looks like the n/a bolts on through the whole case, like from the back all the way to the front with long bolts. You would have to split the whole tranny to get it off it looks like. And when i looked at the t2 it was not split just looked like it bolted in from the front. I just want to verify this, so anyone that knows for sure, chime in please. Thanks

I have swapped the rear tail housing on n/a's without taking the bellhousing off...but I don't know exactly what that means.

and what are the odds of a tranny with no bellhousing being in good condition/low mileage, despite what the owner says? I just got my tranny rebuilt with new bearings, seals, and synchros for 700

Where did you get that done at? Any warranty with it? I know i was kinda skeptical about it from the get go so im kinda glad that it isnt going to work. I would much rather get a rebuilt one. Thanks

The N/A bellhousing doesn't unbolt. Its cast as one piece with the main case.

Well its not cast in one piece. It would separate if you wanted to split the whole case, its not part of the case. But regardless i found out what i needed to know, Thanks guys.

I got it done at a place about 5 minutes from my house in Raleigh NC called Trans Medics. A year ago I just walked in there (not intending to get it rebuilt at the time) and asked the owner if they had ever done Rx-7 turbo transmissions. He said "oh sure, they are just like Ford Rangers, we've done a ton of those type." This inspired confidence in me that he knew what he was talking about.

My tranny was leaking recently so I dropped the tranny and brought it to him. He ordered the rebuild kit for maybe $320 and the rest was labor. The only hitch was that I had given him what turned out to be an 87 tranny (not original, my car was an 88) and the 5th gear synchro he had from the kit was for an 88. It took him a while to track down the right synchro, but the total cost was still $700. I've driven it once since I got it in a couple days ago and it downshifts much more smoothly and doesn't grind any gears. No whining input shaft bearing, no leaks, nothing. 12 month 12k mile warranty. They got it done in a couple days.

It's too bad you are far away from me or I'd refer you to them.

Yea it is. I still might get ahold of them though. It is just a pretty standard rwd tranny so i might just look around my area to. I just hate letting a shop touch any of my stuff unless they have a real good reputation. Thanks for the info though.

the fact that the owner of this shop knew off the top of his head that Rx-7 turbo trannies are the same/similar as Ranger trannies without me telling him is what sold me. He was just really confident and knowledgeable. Try to find someone local like that if you can. If you have the budget, you could send it to this place if they are down with it. But you'll probably have an extra $200 in shipping.
