will the 89 water pump housing fit on an 86 block?

I have an 86 N/A block, that I am installing all 89 components onto.

the problem is that the 86 waterpump housing gets in the way of the 89 OMP, so I need to use the 89 waterpump housing.

Will the 89 waterpump housing bolt up to the 86 block?

Its not that easy though. I did it on my 87TII. You have to swap front cover =(. This means removing the front bolt and must be carefull not to let the thorington bearing fall off its place. T'was easy for me because i was in the process of building my engine.

And you are aware that 89+ water pumphousing has the plastic neck that has no filler. You might also have to swap radiator. OR you can improvise and have a filler on the upper rad hose.

actually, this is a custom application for a 1stgen rx-7, so it has a modified 12a frontccover on it.

I just needed to know if it fits on with anyproblems.

You don't need to swap front covers. You can carefully grind a bit of material off the water pump and the front cover. It's easy, just be careful.

If you dont' grind out the water pump housing a bit, it will stress your front cover and crack it. Spewing oil all over the place. I learned this the hard way. It will bolt on.

is this only the case with the s5's?

the s4 water pump housing went on fine except for the bottom pipe hitting the 89 metering oil pump.

Just so ever body knows what I'm talking about, this is a 12a frontcover modified to fit an s5 oil metering pump.
