why do people remove their FTP's?
i cant' for the love of god find a reason why people remove their FTP lenses. is it for looks? is it for aerodynamics? is it to let air into the engine bay? i could understand on an aftermarket bumper if it doesn't have the holes to mount it, to just leave them off, but i've seen it on stock bumpers too.

I think it is so that they can drive with headlights on and doors down, this would lower wind resistance significantly (~1mpg day vs. night on my car).
Other than that, I have no idea.

Yeah i was washing my car and the driver side one fell out. I think it looks better without anyways. Now on my turbo convertible i took them out so that air can be directed towards the filter.

looks? maybe. It looks better with both of them off when one breaks.
aerodynamics? no, it would be the opposite.
Driving with the headlights down in the ON position? Not a smart idea.
Unless you've made a pact with the devil I don't see how air can get into the FTP, go THROUGH the headlight, then Through the metal wall that separates the front end and engine bay.
My honest answer: One broke and the other was removed to maintain uniformity or the person has no idea what they're doing (75% of the members here. OK OK, maybe 68%)

Some think they look better removed, others don't. For the record, I think they look terrible with an empty hole in the bumper where they were, but the afterarket bumpers that delete them entirely don't look half bad.

My original ones kept getting that glazed over look so I decided to replace them with j-spec ones with the lights in them. But I don't think the normal ftp lenses are that expensive to replace.

I talked to a body shop that says they could perforate that metal wall without reducing structural strength. I've thought about going the headlight cover intake and removing the FTPs route. The headlight cover intakes only function while the headlight is down, removing the FTP and allowing access for air works for at night when the lights are on. I don't know that there is much return on performance with all that effort, so it may never happen. But that is the idea behind it.
