it is either for the oil temp sensor in the oil pan or for the oil pressure sender capacitor which usually is mounted to the clutch slave cylinder.

It is important to monitor engine temps and the like. I would find a sensor that is not connected and buy a new one so everythign works right.

Pure Black wire????? If it's a Black/Red wire I'd go along and say it's part of the SubZero Start System (Oil Pan Switch).....................but that wire comes out of a plug in that area not the harness.

Well, since I didn't hear back, I guess that I will just guess. It's not a ground, period. Depending on the year and model, I would say that it is the level sensor. If the sensor is faulty, or you are low on oil, it lights up an idiot light, and buzzer sounds. Probably is faulty, or someone didn't replace it, but disconnected wire. It is attached to a male end
connector, going into female plug , correct?

The oil level sensor uses a RED/WHITE wire. It comes from a six socket connector that mates b/t the Engine harness and the Front harness. It's located somewhat below the trail coil assy by about a foot.

What color is the wire? Does it have a stripe on it?

that also looks like it could be the brake fluid level sensor that plugs into the brake master cyclinder.

What side of the car is it located??? If it is on the drivers side then i would agree with driften8ez....If it is coming from the passenger side, it looks like it might be the connecting end of your oxygen sensor.
