sorry i had to ... but what do you mean, are you talking about when you move the shifter to a lower gear for launches? Cuz back when I was looking for my 7 I drove one that was auto but I don't remember anything different between that and a regular auto...

It's not a race automatic tranny, so it doesn't just jam into the gears. It slowly eases into the gear, hence the "wait".

What do you mean when the shift **** is off? Could he be talking about a hold button? I am not sure if they had it on 2nd gen 7's.

Yeah, don't tell me you're "manually" shifting all the way up to "D."

As if the auto trannies are weak enough already...

the hold button is much like what an overdrive would be...as the 5 gear is on a manual..overdrive is the ratio to engine rpms and rear wheel rpms..the 5 gear on a manualspins over the engines rpms ratio..whereas the other 4 spin under the rpms of the engine..thus"over"drive////accept on the hold button its operable in lower gears..before the gears can be overdriven than the engine rpms...basically the hold allows for lower shift points and better accelaration...if you are driving around town in 40 mph zones you need to either shift in d and keep the hold on..or stay in s..if not you will underturn the engine and get some really bad carbon depsits due to never revving it out and breaking the smaller ones off before they grow..or you could basically just put too much stress on the engine..because its always shifting at lower points..and bogging...bogging=too much stress on the engine and is bad news..before i swapped out my auto to a mnual..if i stepped on it hard the shifts were very solid..and sharp..and downshifting had a slight delay..but it kicked in hard too...you should experiment with the hold button a bit...maybe when your at 40 mph...in d..just press the hold button..and see about it downshifting and how you get better response from the throttle...at the same time try just dropping it into s and see if it doesnt feel the same....just dont do alot of off the line braking and revving to get a good launch...cuz that will ruin the slushbox quickly..i know cuz i always felt my auto was tight and tried to run with my friends doing this...only took about 10 or so times before i noticed it started slipping alot...but downshifting never seemed to hurt it that way....just my experience..

hope it helps....by the way..at the end of the day..if your not getting out of your rx7 what you hoped cuz its auto...well...you really want a manual...cuz it will turn your car into what you were wanting the whole time you were trying to tweak the auto...ive done it..
