when doing the atf trick for low compression

i have 90, 30, 30 psi readings when hot, what is the atf sposed to do, what if the seal is stuck? what can you do to unstick the seal? i dont have access to mmo, can you turn the rotor around and push the apex seal in a few times while squirting it with crc? how can you tell the difference between broken, cracked or stuck apex seal?

thanks in advance

atf aids in creating a seal when the engine is flooded. It helps make compression. But your 90-30-30 sounds like you have a bad apex seal which would mean that not even atf would help your problem. You're lookin at a rebuild.

If you're lucky and it is just a stuck seal, ATF might help.
It's a long shot, but not costly.

Any thin high detergent oil will do.
TC3 2-stroke oil, or ATF, or aircraft hydraulic fliud, or even CRC penetrating oil, or PB Blaster.
Work it in. (I used the leading plug holes)
Let it sit a day.
Crank it up the next day & hope.

spark plug holes nope... but you can eyeball 'em through the exhaust ports...

Pull off your turbo and exhaust manifold. Turn the engine over by hand and check out the condition of your apex seals.

Yup done it on a 12A using a pencil or similar. I helped a buddy swap a 12A. We looked in the spark plug holes while the engine was out and pressed on the APEX seals. THey were so carbed up I thought he was toast. I then suggested he ATF the engine for a couple of days. After a few days (turning the engine daily adding a bit more etc.) We once again checked the seals. THEY were SO shiny it freaked me out. All the black carbon was gone and when I did the pencil test they flowed in and out like butter, it was so cool. After we slapped the engine back in and fired her up...vroom vroom first click of the key and engine runs super strong now.

I have read so many ATF works wonders AND ATF is bullshit threads...all I can say is in 3 different engines doing the ATF trick has brought the engine back from the dead so there you go first hand real world experience.

One thing tho which is obvious, if the seal is toast , its toast, this aint magic but does do a good cleaning.

Yes, you can do it if you are a contortionist!
You remove the lower (leading) plugs, and observe with a mirror as you rotate the motor by hand (need I say "disconnect the battery"?)
It's very difficult to see, and only about 10% of the apex seal will be visible. You can push on it with a small screwdriver, and see it move in and out a few thou.
You see a lot more of the seals if you remove the exhaust manifold...say 70%. This way you are more likely to see any cracks or imperfections in the seal. But it is a regular PITA to take all that off.
One of my engines was easy. There was no seal at all...just the slot where it used to be! Makes you wonder where the bits end up.
Have fun!
