whats wrong with this car

ok its a 89 turbo 2nd gen it starts up fine runs fine till it gets warmed up...than it wont idal it just shuts off you have to keep giving it gas. than if you keep it running the turbo starts to glow red...my friend changed out all the fuel filters and cleaned the tank thinking it wasint getting any fule...also when he got the car the guy said it was a rebuilt motor with 1500 miles on it......some1 else i talked to said that the car needs a new motor caz who ever built that 1 did it wrong..so if thats it let me know if its not let me know what it is so i can tell my friend....

sounds like clogged catalytic..common for rotary engines (turbo cars especially)..they have higher exhaust temp than that of a piston engine..and they don't completely burn fuel so it ends up wreaking havoc with the cat..my .02..

I'd check for error codes, Timing, cat converter condition, and compression in that order first.

Then check your timing, and rent or buy a comp. tester from discount auto parts or something, they only cost like $20-60, depending on what brand you get and they are surely worth the price.
