What shape would u make a custom dashboard?

If you were to design a custom dashboard, how would it look? Shape, instrument layout, center console, etc. . . how would u do it if it could be all custom?

^^ careful! thats one of the premier fabbers on the 2nd gen forum... do a search on him for some of his old threads, very impressive ****! Then again, I remember everyone always gave him **** about his cold air intake... never did hear how that turned out...?

Many, many gauges & indicator lights. Whatever shape would work best for fitting all that stuff in. I'd probably have the center console angled towards me, so it would be more useful for gauges & the like. I'm not sure I like how far back the FC gauges are - I'd rather have less depth to the dash area and a flat gauge panel.

I guess the best way to describe my vision is "high performance aircraft cockpit layout." Form follows function.

Ever seen the rx-8 dashboard? I like that one myself. perhaps a mix between a 2nd gen 80's look and integrate a "new retro" or whatever you like to call the look of the 8's dashboard.

i think that'd be cool. if i didn't have my kitty that i bought yesterday on my lap i might actually come up with a drawing for that. (if anybody is interested.)

that's why he's a fabricator. work with little to make a lot. good fabricators can do whatever they want. plus if it truly a custom dash you could make, then you wouldn't neccicarially need anything but the fitament of the place where the dash goes.

also, do you think a rx-8's dash is exactly the same size of the rx-7's in terms of length depth and fitament? not even a huge deal to fab up a cross between the 2 styles on paper and find an easy way to make it

I would like to keep the dash mostly stock looking, but have the center console looking a little bit like the FD, just the rounded part. Have it nice and molded in but make the angle a little bit more accute and bring it closer to the drivers hands.

And if that didn't happen I would like to have a dash like eprodrx7's dash.

I am a little drunk so I hope that made sense.

check out Vibrant performance, they have a universal fiberglass dash that cuts to fit. Looks really cool.

I would do something simular to a 928 dash... a nice pod, but more of an angle down for the center consol area.

I love the dash layout of the 1st generation DSM. Reminds me of a fighter jet layout, dash kinda wraps around you.

I really like hte guages from the Lexus LS400 I know the one in 1990 had them. Not necessarily all the other stuff but just the gauges with the black background and the lights. They look really sweet when you first turn them on cause only the needle lights up at first. http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/L...ages2/Dash.jpg
Ignore all the other stuff except the gauges

Bwahahaha!

The 928 dash is 100% SICK

Of all the interiors out there, Porsche 928 / 944 / 968 ones rock the hardest.

I've got my stock dash kind of gutted / mildly cut up and have a center console project sort of going and stalled, and was wondering what I could do with some pink foam and fiberglass if I had the time and just ditched the whole train wreck completely.

I would copy the 928 angled center console, keep the fc bezel and instrument cluster with those cool round switches, and make the actual dash blend in with the door trim upper pieces. The whole dash would just curve around like the inside of the windshield and the center console would blend in with the top of the curve. There would be a single blended protrusion on top for the instrument cluster bezel to attach to. It would be like a bolt in replacement for the FC using the stock instruments, but with a much cooler center console and less angular look, more blended like what I did with my bumper. I like sexy curves, and I like sexy women, do u?

Oh, the cold air / ram air project worked and gives a noticeable boost of power. I doubt it's worth more than a tenth or two in the quarter mile. I finally got it mostly sealed up so that the ram air wouldn't be wasted, and the vacuum gauge readings stay at one atmosphere at WOT higher up the tach range now; went from like 2.5k to 3k rpm before vacuum starts forming in the intake manifold. It's best in third gear when the car is above 60mph. The cold air effect is very noticeable over just the bare cone filter in the engine bay.

If I went crazy for some reason and started producing bumper skins to retro the FC bumper with my duct design w/o replacing the whole thing, I would make a ram/cold air kit to work with it. I'd even make dashboards if the damn government wouldn't get involved, but the dash is kind of engineered for safety in a crash, and I couldn't sell something legally to replace it.

Do what everyone else does: Tack on a little disclaimer that says: Not legal for street use.Its never stopped anyone before, plus all of the ricers would think that it would make their car faster since it is "race car parts".

I'd do an NSX style dash. The center console is slanted at a high degree and it makes the car seem more spacious and less enclosing.

Kinda reminds me of the 300zx dash. (except not as angled)

Didn't somebody put a 300zx dash in a project car of theirs a while back? I'm sure the thread is still here somewhere.

You obvously have not seen a 928 dash in person.

The funky left over yardage sale look of the 300zx has very little in common with the 928 dash.

For sport, I'd focus on the driver. I'd disregard passenger access to console, and passenger comfort. I'd use large a large performance and telemetry display for speed/fuel/stats/proximities such as dial or bar or mixed-graph gauges close to the driver's horizon / line-of-sight for good eye relief and keeping vision on the runway. The console would wrap the driver on each left/right side, remaining high, nearly the height of the lower edge of the window and provide full canopy crash bubbles. Duct driver ventilation to under-seat or side console with the comm/signal jacks for suit and helmet. This is within a mid or rear-engine placing the driver's knees between the front wheel spindles.

For leisure -- an Escalade with one slab of polished birdseye walnut with only a steering wheel. All comfort/entertainment consoles would be accessible with local controls mounted at the many captains chairs/stations.
