What is the "Rat's Nest"?
I tried to find this answer everywhere, even in FAQ, but I can't. Please tell me.
For those of you nice enough to come in here and help, I provide you with this link:

It's the nickname for the mass of solid vacuum and fuel lines that sit under the intake manifold. Some of it's for emission controls, and some is for things like turbo control and auxiliary port actuation (depending on model).
Great link.

bighead, searching on rats nets works fine, you get alot of hits Can't say its gotten me much wiser other then what NZ just told you.
I'm looking for good writeup on removing it from my 87 NA but the few writeups I've found are missing their pictures, are no longer hosted, or I simply can't follow not knowing all the english lingo (I aint a native english speaker), thats why I really want some good pictures
Really nice renderings though, that must have taken ALOT of time to make

I don't like to remove stock things... I figure the Mazda engineers know what they did back then!
Anyways... I've done a search before... didn't work well. NZC has helped me the most!!! Searches just come up with questions and all... not explanations.

bighead, yeah thats my problem with searching aswell, loads of questions about the rats nest, few answers.
Mazda knew what they were doing when they wanted to make a relatively economic sports/street car that could also pass emission that were getting stricter and stricter.
I rebuilding my RX for mostly track use, the only street use it will have is going to and comming from the track, if I can't get it to pass dutch emmissions it'll do that on the back of a trucks My goal is simply getting the complexity of the car down so I have less to worry about and can do more on the car myself. Its mostly a learning experience
I wouldn't be doing this if it would be my (daily) street car
