What is FTP?

I've been reading about these RX-7's for a while now, I am in process of building one and I think I am going to love this car because so far I've only heard good things about it and I AM EXCITED!

But what is "Flash to Pass" lights?

Also saw a 1988 RX-7 TII for sale (claim of 250hp) for 7,500 bucks is it worth that much it was red with about 130k on the motor.

thanks

FTP: Flash-To-Pass lenses. Mazda's way of making the RX7 able to flash its lights without having to flip up the lights (the headlights shine through the FTP lenses). Sure makes the headlight motors last a lot longer....

Every RX7 worth its money has a good -or very good - compression. Before doing anything, get a compression check on the car. If its anything over 8, buy it immediatelly. If its anything below 7,5, I'd think twice before buying

$7500 for a series 4 with 130k on it?!? No way, you can find a much better deal than that. For that much you can buy a TII with a blown engine, put a fresh rebuilt and ported engine in there, get a fmic, haltech, and turbo kit. Well just about anyways. I would look around alot more, it would be a lilttle different story if it was a series 5 (89-91) with like under 100k on it.

The FTP lenses here in America DO NOT FUNCTION. They are merely hollow plasitc lenses, w/o any lights in them. Many people (including me) hollow them out for better engine air cirrculation, and plus, they look really mean hollowed out and painted black! And a 1988 TII w/ 130k on the original engine is not worth more than $2.5k-$3k. I am currently looking for one as a project car, so this is the usual asking price. That engine has only about 10k miles (ie one year) left on it, more than likely, and a rebuild or new engine will be $1000+.

Right. it is because they are hollow. In Japan, I ahve been told, they actually light up. There are actual bulbs in them. Here in America, there are no bulbs in them. Mabye I have been given false info, but even in GT3, there are actual light bulbs in there. Go race Special Stage R5. You will se what I mean...

In Jap models they're used as your front marker lights. They just have a 5W bulb in them. They suck. For some reason mine had front marker lights in the bumper too (with the indicators) and the "FTP" ones weren't connected, so I "converted" them into FTP lenses
