FTP lense

It's apparent to most of us FC owners that over time our FTP lenses start looking pretty poor. Really mine look ok, except some of the tint is peeling off. Is there anything I can use to totally peel the tint off and just get them retinted, or is what's peeling just crapping out plastic. After having the FTP lense in and out, I like the car with them in but I'm not gonna shell otu 100 bucks for some plastic lenses.

I've had them out and in, trying to see what I like better, and I think I like them better with them in.

you might be able to sand it off. or maybe use a razor blade, and then super fine sand paper to remove all the little scrathces and stuff.

those are the Jspec ones. I just ordered a set. they should be here soon. you can get them from corksport or in the for sale section, or occasionally on ebay.

I've heard the lights aren't powerful enough to use as driving lights. its just enough to make them show. but I'm sure you could replace the bulbs ... although it might not do much because its only like 1 inch below the headlights.

if you want day time running lights without buying the j spec ones or pulling the fuse, try this http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/lights.htm

I removed my FTP lenses, and replaced them with honeycomb grille from a pontiac grand prix. I think it looks great, has a nice OEM look.

There are several ways to restore plastic lenses depending on how bad the plastic is. You just want to remove the crappy surface to reveal the nice plastic underneath.

Mine were just a little dull so I used bathroom cleaner, the mildly abrasive liquid type. Workied perfectly, so I did the indicator lenses too. They now look like new.

If it's more serious try a paint cutting compound. My friend restored a terrible pair of plastic headlights to new with this. If it's really bad, use fine sandpaper first.

Don't waste your money with JDM marker lights. You'll be disappointed with the light from the 5W bulbs, which aren't any brighter than your existing marker lights. They're push-in festoon bulbs, so bigger ones aren't an option without custom fitting a new bulb holder.

Don't the JDM ones just have those "city lights" they use over there in them?

Another alternative to pulling the fuse (plus you don't have to dig into your instrument cluster.) I've done it this way and love it.

I use 1000 grit wet sandpaper (under running water) to clean my FTPs inside and out. Cleans them right up without scratching.

Read my post above. They're not city lights, they're just 5W front marker lights just like you already have. US cars have them intetgrated into the indicators instead.
