What are the best basic mods?
i'm looking for some basic mods to do to my 89 GXL, really just the most bang for the buck. i was thinking of the racing beat 'cat replacement pipe W/prescliencer', maybe an underdrive pully, and ignition coils. i was looking at a corksport ecu upgrade, does anyone know about that or if its worth a damn?
if anyone else can give me some advise of what to look into that'd be cool
i dont want to go crazy with mods or spend too much on my daily driver, but just have a little more fun with it...

First mods that should be done before anything else???
A major tune up.
This includes replacing spark plugs, spark plug wires, all belts, all fluids (including brake, clutch, tranny, rear end, engine oil, engine coolant, etc), rubber heater hose under the oil filter, the PD (if the car has more than 100K miles on it), O2 sensor, all filters (gas tank, fuel, air, oil). Then the TPS and Timing should be checked. Bearings re-packed.
Then if you have money left over, then you can consider starting to do mods.

While its already down on HP because it is out of tune and/or has parts that are about to fail and have never been replaced (like brake fluid or diff gear lube)(those typically are the newbie ones that post their new new car week one- bitchen thingamabob the following week, and whine about their blown engine the week after that).
When in stock and in spec form, even a non turbo is pretty quick.
That is why I say first thing (anytime) anyone asks about what mods, is to suggest bringing it back to stock levels of reliable preformance. And lets face it... to do all those things, it would be anywhere from $500-$1000 (depending on who does the work).
Then they can tweak after that.

How will it help? Better power bands?

Stuff like no fuel cut, rev limiter, new fuel maps, set for bigger injectors, etc. etc. etc.
The sort of stuff a remapped ECU should do :P

No, because we tune it to the specific mods that the customer sends us. So it would be kinda hard to dyno something that doesn't have a set parameter.
