If you search for "weight reduction" you'll find more than you'll ever need or want to know.

power everything, a/c, interior, stereo, then buy lightweight stuff such as seat, glass, etc. if you want to get real fancy you can get rid of the sunroof and all its gadgets and weld in a new piece of metal. but like ddub said, serching will most likely find more stuff and details on how to do it.

I'm not sure if you're asking how to remove weight and then how to add hp, or if you want to lighten the car to add hp. Either way, removing weight will not add any power. It simply gives more effective use of the power that was already there, since there is less mass to accelerate.

If you already knew that, then disregard my note.

i got a good idea, go on a diet!!! driver weight matters, im a fat guy if i could only lose 50 lbs! then my car woudlnt have to!!!

people have listed alot of the areas,
removing the tar from the floor pans and ect is another weight reduction,

another one ive noticed that is often over looked if you wanted a truly light car, would be the exhaust system, my striped n/a had stock exhaust and i justed desided to drop the cat back ( run with out one) and i got a HP gain and about 50 lb weight reduction! that sucker is HEAVY! all that heat sheilding garbage

Juts take a look at everything on the car and think to yourself: Do I really need that? If the answer is no, take it off.

To give you an example, some things that i did that will improve on the cars accelerating and braking. I got rid of A/C, P/S, all the air ducts, the fan, heater core, took out the sunroof and welded it shut. removed the air pump as well and all the emissions.

Also played around with Rim/tire combo went from the stock 4 bolt hubs and phone dial rims to the TII 5 bolt hubs and 4 pot calipers and lightweight 16x7 rims but with 205/40 tires so the overall height of the tire is less and the rim/tire combo is also lighter. So that alone drops the car about an inch maybe a little more, and makes it easier for the engine to turn the wheels and also helps braking alot! But with a 3.909 lsd rear end from a automatic 87 N/A it keeps your gearing close to that it would be with a 4.10.

If you remove weight from anything that rotates, the car will respond to the square of the radius of the weight from its axis of rotation. In other words, removing rotating weight is much more noticeable on acceleration than non-rotating weight. For example, on my car, switching from 40lb to 30lb wheel / tire combos gave my car .01-.02 g acceleration in every gear. That doesn't seem like much but it was worth a tenth in the quarter mile and a couple mph trap speed.

You must find the balance between driveablility and lightness before gleefully tossing away parts, i.e. losing your a/c on a black on black car in the summer in FLA (ask me how i know) is NOT a good idea on a daily driven car. If this is a track only or w/e driven car, rock on. But if you are a student, and work 40+ hours and then go to school across town and this is your primary mode of transport, (also speaking from experience) you may want to think about chucking the sound deadener, a/c, ps, tow hooks, spare tire (!!), ect.
