water pump question

hey all,
i'm adapting a tII to an MGB.
I'm having clearance problems with the waterpump inlet... it's too long and hits my frame.
Do all Mazda waterpumps for the rotary have the same configuration on the inlet?

I know there are aftermarket electric ones around, but would rather stay with something conventional for now.

Any advice is appreciated

BTW... I did use 'Search' but couldn't find anything.

Thanks

Are you talking about the thermostat neck or the lower inlet? If you are talking the lower inlet, then you can cut it down a bit if that would help, but other than that, you are out of luck from what I know.

Ya I don't understand what your getting at. Is the front of the water pump hitting the front of the frame of your MGB? Hmm, if so I think you could be SOL because that is barely off the engine block.

about the pic on the post above; before you ask...
1- no, the turbo won't fit in there either. a supercharger will be used.
2- i've changed front cover / oil pan since and moved engine back slightly. There is a LITTLE clearance now, but not near enough
3- I've considered cutting the inlet, but then i'd have to grind (or something) to get enough of a lip on the housing.

thanks

I think what you should do is to cut it back quite a bit, the get some u-bend pipe in AL, and try to angle it towards to front to try to give you the ince or 1 1/2 inces needed to clear and not hit with vibrations etc. You could re-weld the rolled end back onto the u-bend pipe so the hose will stay on when clampped. Or just double hose clamp it and it will be fine.

To answer your first question, no, all of the 2nd gen waterpump housings stick out that far..

I'd cut it, and take it to a radiator shop and have them weld a bead around it.

The other gens water pumps won't fit, but they are all similar anyway.

Hack it

3rd gens stick out even further than 2nds so that wont work either. Best bet is to have it modified. Cool project. Ive been thinking about dropping a ported 13B in my MGB-GT.

cut it back tap pipe thread into it and use a 90* AN adapter and an AN hose for the lower radiator. -18 or -20 should be enough. or a couple pipe fittings to give you some room. other wise cut it back and have machine shop turn housing for new hose location.

Looks like you got no choice here but to cut it.......It seems like the headers are gonna be on there tight too.

fastrotaries, you're right. Headers will be tight. I've test fitted some mandrel bends and they should clear though.
