Water pump question

a few ppl I know have been telling me that I don’t need a water pump on my 87 TII but i’m worried about takeing it off because there’s a sticker on the water pump that says "do not remove, no oiling" anyone know the specifics of why the water pump is there and what exactly it does? My assumption was that it pumps coolant from the radiator through the housings but i'm still new to most of this stuff anyway =/

I'm sorry, but they are telling you that you don't need run a water pump?!

Stop listening to them. I hope they are joking, but if they are not, they should sell their cars immediately and only ride bicycles.

The water pump on the RX-7 does exactly what it does on any other car; pump cooling water around the engine and radiator to keep the engine at a constant temperature. It is a necessary component.

The only thing in the engine bay that has that sticker is the Air Pump, not the water pump.

Ah ha, air pump!

It CAN be removed, but not if you intend on passing emissions or are running a cat. If you do remove it you will need to remove and block off the ACV as well.

Best advice is to leave it alone for now.

In that case, the air pump can be removed. If you do remove it, you will need to get a dual belt pulley for your alternator as well. Removal of the air pump causes the alternator belt to handle the full load of the water pump, making it slip at high RPMs. The dual belts eliminate this.
