Water pump not working after 4k rpms?
I'm going to drive a car back on the highway for a long period of time and my brother who's comming with me on the trip told that the water pump just spins and doesn't pump any water after 4k. I tried calling his bluff but I'm not sure now. He also told me the rotary's cooling system sucks on the highway for that reason. Can anyone back me up on this? We'll be driving for about 30hrs. But man it's so worth it. (picking up a 10ae, I've wanted one for so long!)

I have driven for hours atleast at 4K probably higher, with No problems.
I think your brother is right about the water pump not working, but I think that is only at really high RPMs, water pumps just churn up the water and not pump any (or so im told).

You're doing seriously illegal speeds if you're hitting 4kRPM in 5th gear...even in a Turbo II.
We're not talking about German autobahns, right?
Even from 60mph to 80mph, the tach should not be going over 3.5kRPM or so...
I don't know why you're worried about sustained 4kRPM driving?

I can See "Cavatation",but I wouldn't Bet that your brother is Neccessarily Right. The water Pump still turns...BUY a New Pump?..No...Slow Down..uh yes.If you are Doin 4K in 5th gear, You are Going Way too fast to be out on the Highway.Take it to the track.(congratulations on gettin a 10AE though!)

Did u remove your thermostat? Thermostat is the restriction that helps prevent cavitation. Also dirty radiator (Bugs etc) can make it heat up on the 'highway' when u need that additional airflow.
