Water pump not working after 4k rpms?

I'm going to drive a car back on the highway for a long period of time and my brother who's comming with me on the trip told that the water pump just spins and doesn't pump any water after 4k. I tried calling his bluff but I'm not sure now. He also told me the rotary's cooling system sucks on the highway for that reason. Can anyone back me up on this? We'll be driving for about 30hrs. :wallbash: But man it's so worth it. (picking up a 10ae, I've wanted one for so long!)

uhh ive never had a problem or heard of that. buti drove my TII in 100+ weather for over 4 hours once on the freeway and after 4k in 5th ur doing almost 90 or about that

I have driven for hours atleast at 4K probably higher, with No problems.

I think your brother is right about the water pump not working, but I think that is only at really high RPMs, water pumps just churn up the water and not pump any (or so im told).

4k in 5th should be about 105-110 in a n/a

so you'll be fine

but why not just buy a new waterpump?

I was going to say...

You're doing seriously illegal speeds if you're hitting 4kRPM in 5th gear...even in a Turbo II.
We're not talking about German autobahns, right?

Even from 60mph to 80mph, the tach should not be going over 3.5kRPM or so...

I don't know why you're worried about sustained 4kRPM driving?

It's not till like 6k or so, I forget its in the racing beat catalogue.

I can See "Cavatation",but I wouldn't Bet that your brother is Neccessarily Right. The water Pump still turns...BUY a New Pump?..No...Slow Down..uh yes.If you are Doin 4K in 5th gear, You are Going Way too fast to be out on the Highway.Take it to the track.(congratulations on gettin a 10AE though!)

Did u remove your thermostat? Thermostat is the restriction that helps prevent cavitation. Also dirty radiator (Bugs etc) can make it heat up on the 'highway' when u need that additional airflow.

if you remove the air pump and have a single alternator pulley then the belt can slip and that can cause problems at high rpms

double post sorry.

What a load of bollocks. Rotary engines have an entirely conventional cooling system, no different to what you'll find on any piston engine.
