water in the oil

hey guys, i just pulled my dip stick out and the thing is covered in water film, just wondering what the most common causes of this would be? where are the weak points i should check in my engine?

If it's white stuff that's pretty normal. Condensation is going to get into the crankcase. If you're worried about it change your oil and check it every day for a while and see how it progresses.

If you take a lot of short trips or leave the oil in there for a long time it can cause some condensation buildup on the dipstick and on the underside of the oil fill cap.

I get the same thing too but my i have no emissions Could I set up a catch can to pull off the Nipple on the filler tube and the other line on the catch can to a vacuum source with a check valve in line so when the car hits boost it wont pressurize the oil pan?

Wouldn't that help take care of the vapours?

I wouldn't do that, but done properly I think you could. A catch can is fine, a vacuum source isn't really needed and you'd just be drawing crap into the intake charge. Granted, that's pretty much exactly what the PCV system does, but I don't like it that way so I removed mine.

well if i got a catch can it would need some way of pulling the vapours out personally i think it would also help pull fuel from the oil possibly helping the bearings in the motor i couldn't see it hurting the intake charge or power levels by burning off abit of excess fuel as it would only pull it when in vacuum and not in boost

i would do that! i've had this problem too.. :/ when ever i'm racing someone or just boosting it, oil sprays out onto my beautiful engine bay! :/ so yeah, thats for reminding me about the oil catch cans! i'm getting one.

If you want to run it that way I think you can, but you don't need a vacuum source to draw the vapors out. The stock system that does this is called PCV, Positive Crankcase Ventilation. I've run mine without a vacuum source and I've overfilled a catch can with the runoff after a few weeks. The crankcase pushes enough air around on its own. I don't think it would do much in drawing fuel out of the oil either, but I can't be sure on that.

i was honestly waiting for someone to say "your engine is blown, rebuild it". but it is normal as said for old oil and short trips for condensation to accumulate in the crankcase.

That was definitely my first thought when I saw the thread title, but after reading, obviously not the case
