Wastegate Porting
Wastegate Porting
Hey guys I have been doing some research on porting the wastegate on a series 4 turbo. I am looking for some before and after pics so I can be sure of what I am doing. Or at least tips from someone who has personally done it. How much can I port out of it? I don't wanna kill my turbo!!! Thanks in advance!

I think all the FC info has been removed from the K2RD site, but I have all the pics of their wastegate porting saved. I can email them if you haven't got hold of them yet.
Hey Jason, Can you send those pics to me RotarHead13BT@aol.com

It really doesent have to be that specific, i mean keep in mind that all you have to do is port it not more than the flapper door, that way no exaust gases bypass at all. But you really want to get it as large as possible to cure any creep you might have.
You don't need pics...
Just make the hole bigger!!!
You CAN go larger than the flapper door. You shouldn't unless you have a real problem with boost creep though. I had to though.
As long as at least 80% of the hole is covered by the flapper, you shoudln't have a noticable difference in turbo spoolup time.
Also- angle the hole, smoothing out the back of the wastgate as well, just look at it as a flow of fluid, and look at the parts that would make the flow more turbulant... every bit counts.

If you're going to port bigger than the stock flap then you should get a bigger flap fitted. This would be a simple job for a turbo shop. I would think any leakage of the wastegate would slow turbo response, and these these old turbos aren't that great in that department to start with...

i agree, porting the gate larger than the flapper will increase spoolup times. boostmotorsport used an exhaust valve from a 4banger to replace his wastegate door, its much larger than the stock flapper
