Walbro 255 overkill?

I am doing a n/a to turbo swap in my s5 GXL. I know I need to upgrade the fuel pump. I heard a lot about the walbro 255. This is what we are running in our omni GLHS. I have a j-spec engine. Right now im not looking towards doing much at all to it besides the RB exhaust and a k&n cone filter. Is this going to be over kill? If I do go with the RB I am thinking of putting an HKS PFC F-con in for the defenser and to make sure it dosent lean out. Any suggestion?

For the money it is very inexpensive insurance. You can never go wrong with a fuel pump upgrade. Very few things will deystroy a motor quicker than running lean. Plus you will be ready for future upgrades. Who are you kidding that you will stop at a filter and exhaust

port in now before it goes in the car because a swap is more of a pain in the *** than you think. Also a $99 dollar ebay walbro will be one of the best upgrades you can buy.

Id port it but I dont know how much it will take from longevity or reliability of the engine.

If you want a reliable car.

don't go turbo, or if you must go turbo, don't mod it.

I say buy a cheap reliable daily driver 4 cyl. that get's 40 Mpg. and have fun with the 7. IMO.

And don't get me wrong here. I trust my car like no other. It is very reliable, I just know it is not going to last very long. 40-60k miles tops is my guess.

Lets put it this way, the turbo is already taking away from the engines life, I dont know how much more porting will take from it. I'm not looking for diesel reliability. I got a 4-cyl that gets 40mpg. I want a 7. Will I need a piggyback fuel computer for what im doing? If not, if I port it will I?

When do you need a fuel pressure regulator upgrade on a turbo 2? If you put on a bigger pump like a 255, and say 720cc injectors, do you need one?

A turbo will not decrease the motors life if everything is working correctly. If you mod a turbo, just do it in the right order and everything will still be fine. Here's the way I went..but mind you, I don't drive it all that often, so a lot of stuff happened over the winter.

Filter
Clutch/flywheel
Exhaust
bigger flapper on wastegate
-8 to -6 fuel lines
walbro
Gigantic radiator
FMIC

This winter
Microtech install LT-12 with wideband

With all of the above, I should be ready for any turbo that I want (with injectors), then a cage, then suspension..etc..etc. The money pit goes on and on and on.

The way you drive your car is also a big contributing factor to it's lifetime/reliability..

If everything is working correctly you will stop a moron failure, and instant motor kill (I.E. running lean, Over heating Etc.) But any vehicle with forced induction is not going to have the longevity of one without. Turbo's are harder on the motor any way you look at it. And even worse when you are running higher than stock boost levels. You can take all the neccisary precautions to ensure things are working right, but it is still going to wear out quicker with forced induction.

i was going to get a nippon denso high flow fuel pump for a 89 gxl t2 conversion but it's high compared to the walbro. basically i'm asking, are the walbros as reliable as a new nippon denso?
