Visual Differences between S4 and S5 Motor...

Hello Guys,

Sorry for the 'newb' questions. I did some searching on the topic before posting this, however the picture that I was looking for I could not find. I bought a 1986 RX7 FC NA with a T2 drivetraind/engine. The motor was blown and will be pulled within the next few days. I've been doing some intense research and am fairly confident that I can handle the work. Pulled numerous motors, work done mostly on my 300zx tt (not easy to work on). But rotary is new to me.

What I want to know is is there any visual indication of what motor it is s4/s5? I know there are some differences in what parts I'll need for the rebuild and it just makes working on it easier when you know what it is . BTW the motor was a JDM motor if that helps.

Also the previous owner did not know much about the car, only had it 2-3 weeks b4 he blew motor. He did not have a clutch fan or an electric fan on the car. I'm suspecting the coolant seals are blown as he went to a drag strip (and some how pulled off 3 runs b4 he blew it). compression test coming in the next few days.

Again if you guys could help me out would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Paid $300.00 for it. The Turbo is essentially new. Had paperwork on a reman for the turbo. Essentially the car is fairly clean. This car will be a track car for me so my first need is to get it up and running. Are there any visual indications that show the differences between an S4 and S5 motor?

Thanks.

The previous owner =\. He bought the car for 3200 3 weeks b4 he blew it.

Yeah I've looked through the manual's, just trying to find some visual indications on which JDM motor this is.

Plastic coolant neck (on the top of the waterpump) an electronic oil metering pump, oval injector clips. There is no writing on the top of the rotor housings (other than the 13B MAZDA), it has two throttle position sensors. The BAC should read n370, as well as the turbo should have a square/rectangular exhaust manifold, where all 4 bolts are spaced the same, where as the s4 one bolt was spaced inwards. Also should have a larger alt (n350/n370)

The S4 has a manifold actuator that looks kind of like the wastegate actuator on the turbocharger.
