Vert specific question.
OK, in the vert,on the package shelf there are two rests, (or bumpers or whatever you call them) that the top sits on right when it is open(the hard part folded back). The little bumpers are square and are pretty hard rubber. They are right behind the two round caps.
MY question is that about 2/3rd of the time when the top is down, it locks (wedges) itself in there somewhere. I think it's the actual top latch getting stuck on the caps, or is it something else.
I'm wondering if it's supposed to happen. It would make sense, would actually 'lock' it in place, so that top doesn't flip up while driving.... and also might make it a tad more rigid than if it's just sitting there loose.( I know the integrated roll bar does add side ti side stiffness).
I'm wondering if it's supposed to happen, and if a third of the time it doesn't , or if it's really screwed up and does this when it should not.....
It's not really a big problem, as soon as I touch the close button, it comes loose, I never have to force it up. But until I hit that button that sucker is in there tight and can't be lifted.
I just want to make sure nothing is wrong or needing a tune up in the top dept. and I really don't have the flo to fix a busted top right now(hell can't even afford power windows after this new clutch........)
yeah kinda screwy post, I know, but would like other vert owners $.02.

Mine locks down the same way. I assumed that it was a lock to keep the targa panel locked down and safe, just as you suggested.
Be careful when you lower it and lock it. If you aren't gentle, you can put permanent dents in the leading edge of the targa panel.
Mine was dented on the two bump stops when I bought the car.

I might be incorrect, but aren't those the covers for the shock towers, springs, etc? Just like in the engine bay. I lower the top to rest on them, but fold back the flap to ensure that the top doesn't fly open. Just a thought,

nah they're not the caps for the shocks. I thought they would be as you suggested.
I was tearing the car apart for a good full detail. It's almost amazing how dirty the car gets when you drive with the top down all the time...
so I had the cover off, and those caps are from something on the bottom of one of the cross braces. IT might bolt just to the brace, but I have a feeling there's something in there that has to do with the top mech.
Alright, I guess it would make sense they are to hold it down, I'm going to see if it looks like there is anykind of adjustment that would affect how it 'locks' in place.

On mine, the top just rests on them. It isn't held down in any way except for gravity. But I also never had a problem with it bouncing up and down no matter how hard I drive. You aren't leaving the header latches in the open position, are you?

Hmm, I always close the latches and the little flaps..
I thought it used to just rest on them too, but never really payed attention until recently, so I posted the Q.
I think you'd have to be well over 100 with the windows down for wind to be an issue, that targa is heavy. But maybe that's a second motive for that wind deflector(I hardly ever use it) but could see how it could help hold the top down.
Anyways, I looked and it doesn't seem like anything I do adjustment wise would prevent this from happening, or make it happen all the time, without screwing up the way the top actually locks closed.
I guess I'll just deal with it. I hope it's not a signal for top problems....

I've been to just over 110 (about as high as it would go with the top down I guess) and there is still no sign of the top bouncing around. Unless it gets stuck in the down position and starts raining, I don't think you need to worry about it.
