Vacuum Hoses Question???
Vacuum Hoses Question???
I recently purchased a 88 FC N/A. When looking at the motor, I saw what looked like vacuum lines being "blocked" off. I was wondering if this is a problem or if it will do any damage to the engine.

On a 86 n/a, that should have a hose that will go to the Oil Injector Spider. The next hose down gose to the fuel injector bleed nipple and the last feeds the small tube solenoid rack.
That nipple with the bolt, leads to a passage in FRONT of the throttle plates. Done.

Each oil injector gets oil from that pump. The injector also gets a source of filtered/metered air from the throttle body to the top of each injector. That's where the SPIDER and the bolted metal nipple on your car come in.
It's possible the previous owner has disabled the oil metering pump and therefore did not need the nipple with the bolt in it. He would have been mixing two stroke oil with each tank of gas to make up for the lack of a oil metering pump.
Or he could have lost he hose and just plugged the nipple on the throttle body?
I don't think you'll ever know til you pull the upper intake off and take a lookat the oil injectors and the lines going to the oil metering pump.
Bottom line: find out if your engine is getting oil from the oil metering pump. Engine life will be shortened dramatically if you don't have one working right.
You NEED to download the Factory Service Manual for your car from this site and read the Lubrication section.
If the oil metering pump is there, and the lines to the injectors are there, and the rod that controls the pump is there and connected up, then most likely the pump has been injecting pil. The lines off the top of the injectors will give you a slightly bum idle speed due to that air being sucked in thru the injectors is unmetered air and it's bypassing the afm, not being accounted for by the ECU/AFM type thing.

Looks like a typical example of someone hacking the car. Others have mentioned what that line is for so I'm not going to repeat. But what it does mean is that the entire car must be looked over with a fine-tooth comb to source out and correct all the other hacks that will be scattered around the car.
Your greatest asset is going to be someone local with rotary knowledge and a copy of the factory service manual (see FAQ). If you are mechanically inclined, then you could probably just get by with the manual.
Based on that picture it appears that the actuator rod for the metering oil pump has been removed. I can just bearly see the lever down near the bottom of the image. If this is the case, then the apex seals and combustion surfaces of the engine are receiving no lubrication. For the time being, check the Archives for "premix" and begin premixing so avoid further engine damage. In the long term, you will probably want to fix whatever is wrong with the metering oil system to avoid the hassle of premixing.
