Using S5 turbo parts on an S4, and what about T3/T4?

My friend and I might be getting an '88 TII which needs some parts. I have a '90 TII from which we can take some stock parts from, since I'll be upgrading them anyways. I looked up the differences between the zenki and kouki motors but I have some more specific questions. What are the codes for the S4 turbo and S5 turbo? Is it possible to swap the S5 exhaust manifold, turbo, wastegate, and intercooler into the S4 and make it work with an air/fuel controller & boost controller? The '88 has 750cc injectors and a 255lb/hr fuel pump installed, if that helps. Also, I have an XS power T3/T4 .60 trim turbo, has anyone used that particular size and can comment?

you can swap the turbo and manifold into an s4 with no problem. intercooler isn't much different, so there's no point in swapping.

and xs power/ss auto chrome/whatever shitty turbos are junk. and that turbo sounds like it's probably too small.

What kinda codes?
Stock ECU error codes?

Wastegates are integrated into the turbo (i.e. turbine) itself.
Each turbo requires that particular turbo exhaust manifold - you cannot just swap the turbos around with the different turbo exhaust manifolds.
The intercooler core is the same, and the only difference is the 1.75" inlet versus the 2.00" inlet; it's debatable if this makes any difference in performance.

"Air/fuel controller"? A'PEXi S-AFC?
Boost controller does not care what kind of turbo you are running.

Without any type of fuel control?
That's not recommended.

IMNSHO, XS Power crap is...well...crap.
Besides, T3 anything is just too small on a 13B.

Yes, S-AFC or equivalent. I mentioned the boost controller because the S5 TII runs higher psi so I didn't know if that would be an issue.

There will be fuel control, if you mean a fuel pressure regulator and an S-AFC

So it is or is not possible to mount the S5 turbo and exhaust manifold on the S4 engine?
The reason I mention the intercooler is because I am paying for 1/2 the price of the S4 so I can grab the GReddy FMIC from it, and I'd be replacing it with the I/C from my S5.

As a unit, yes. Meaning turbo, manifold and oil return line as a unit.

Along with several hundred other people, I've done what you just asked. If memory serves, the oil return line is a touch different b/t turbos so you have to use the series five oil RETURN line to the front cover.

That is correct.
Hitachi HT-18

Kouki FC turbo runs higher boost cause it runs a boost solenoid that is controlled by the stock ECU.
If you remove the boost solenoid, it will run identical boost as a Zenki FC turbo.

If you add an aftermarket boost controller, either turbo will run the same amount of boost, because you need to bypass the stock boost solenoid from the Kouki FC turbo anyways.

That will work, no problem.

Yes, HAILERS has been trying to tell you that!
The only correction is that you need to use your original S4 oil drain pipe and swap it onto the S5 turbo center.
This will allow the turbo to mate with your S4 pipe on the front cover.

No problem - just make sure you use the S5 rubber elbow going into the IC, since this is bigger than the S4 version.
