Using high beam switch turns off my headlights, now they don't work at all

87 rx7. Noticed a while back that my high beams worked intermittently then stopped working all together.
What i mean is when I would switch from low to high by pulling the turn signal stock my headlights would just turn off altogether!
Recently I tried to flash someone and my headlights turned off and now their stuck like that...... wtf!?
could really use some help soon cuz I have an event I want to use the car for but i cant if my headlights aren't working, ;_;
I looked through the forum and couldn't find anyone else with this issue other than some people saying their high beams didn't work or it stayed on low beams. They either said the headlight switch which doesn't apply in my case because the headlights (on low beams) would come on but not high beams so were talking about the turn signal stock here, or the headlight relay which I'm kind of turning towards.

Update: so after going out and playing with the stock enough times the low beams decided to work again, problem is i still don't have high beams, the second i flip the switch the lights turn off until I flip it again sooooooo......
Update #2: Think its the dimmer relay but still not sure...... I listened to the relay and it did click when the high beams are activated but still no high beams, thinking it might be a bad contact inside the relay because the outside contacts are good and there are multiple grounds and the lights nor the light inside the dash is coming on. anyone know where i can get a new relay OR if I can salvage this one because it does still function.

Is it the bulbs? lol

Did a little searching and saw some people mention CPU but that might be an S5 thing - this thread:

(Comment about dimmer from same thread):

This is just a guess but judging from what he said it could potentially still be the headlight switch causing problems- I was having a bunch of light issues (dash lights, headlights) related to a faulty headlight switch, which I replaced with a rebuilt one and modded the wire harness with a relay and all those issues stopped (here's my thread regarding that):
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...ights-1148771/

and the relay mod to the headlight switch wire harness mentioned:

Worth a try, hoping it's just burnt out bulbs or relay though.

ill pull out the bulbs and see what I find. But looking back at the diagram I dont think so because if the bulb was just burnt out the high beam light on the dash would come on because it has a separate ground, right?

Correct. The HB indicator is in parallel to the HB circuit and receives 12v from after the Dimmer Relay. Consult the wiring diagram and try bypassing the Dimmer Relay with a Jumper wire (Pin 30 to Pin 87A) and turn on the headlights. If they come on (low beam), your Dimmer relay is the issue. Then swap the Jumper to connect 30 to 87 and your high beams should come on.

If neither come on, your Headlight Relay is suspect. Put the Dimmer Relay back and bypass the Headlight relay with the Jumper wire in the same manner. The headlight relay failing seems more likely in this scenario.

Good point, ill do that
PROBLEM SOLVED: Bad Relay!
took off the relay, took a piece of extra wire and jumped it and the high beams came on normally. the relay clicks when activated but im assuming a problem on the switch side caused it to not function on high beams....

Glad you found the problem. Did you get another relay? Pretty sure I have all of the stock ones here if you need it. I'll check later today.
