New Cluster Switch, New Harness (with relay mod), Still No Dash Lights
Hi everyone, here goes my first post:
A few weeks ago I lost my gauge lights after hitting redline (smelled something burning). All other lights, electricals, and fuses seemed to be ok, except for one or both of my headlights not coming on sometimes (they flipped up and down fine, just didn't turn on).
Installed a replacement headlight switch from 13b etc with a new harness using the relay mod, which seemed to have fixed my headlight problem, but I still don't have any gauge lights ! Any thoughts as to what the problem might be?
My current guess is that there might be some faulty wiring with the aftermarket head unit I bought the car with and might've burned out all the gauge bulbs somehow...? The radio was dead when I bought the car last month, but after pulling it out I found out it was just a burnt in-line fuse on the back of it - after replacing it's been working fine since.
Since I ran out of daylight, I'll be pulling the gauge bulbs tomorrow to find out if they're just burnt out and update. I'll also be checking the wires behind the radio again to see if they've melted or something. Would a poor ground do this?
Thanks in advance!

Update:
Still no gauge lights; Pulled all the dash bulbs and they looked fine, still swapped them for LED bulbs though. (Forgot to mention my turn signal, Hi-beam, and shift indicators work, so now they're really nice and bright with the LEDs lol)
Something I also realized:
Repaired 1986-1991 RX-7 Headlight Switch
I think I might just have to bypass the dimmer switch somehow and have the gauge lights on at full brightness all the time. I've seen some posts mention this (splicing the r/b and r/g wires together) but they were for 1st gen only. Gotta take a look at the diagrams again to figure out how to do this.
Hoping documenting this might at least be helpful for someone else with the same issue !

"Due to a component failure in some switches' dimmer circuit and the proper replacement part being no longer available, some switches may not have the dash dimmer function, though all dash, exterior, and headlights will still work properly otherwise."
I'm guessing there's a chance that the refurbished switch I'm using fixed my buggy headlight problem, but is still preventing my dash lights from working.I think I might just have to bypass the dimmer switch somehow and have the gauge lights on at full brightness all the time. Did some digging - gonna try this and see what happens:

Somehow didn't find this thread after weeks of searching until today - wish me luck !
Also, I ended up looking behind the head unit and I found a broken r/g wire that I think is supposed to go to the cig lighter bulb? Unsure of what to do with it for now, I insulated it.

Spliced the R/g and R/b wires on the headlight switch harness and dash lights are on !
I think the splice should be made after the relay (on the switch connector side of the harness instead of the car plug side). When I first tried it I did the splice before the relay and the dash and all the running lights would stay on even with the car turned off, headlight switch set to off and the key removed lol
