Upgrading to 17s

Summer is here and my father is buying me the rims of my choice for passing all my classes this year. I currently have 16s and they are hard to find nice tires for. I want something staggered with a nice deep chrome lip. I havent decided to go with a gold center rim or silver/gunmetal.

My question is what are some good sizes to go with for the rims. I know the fronts are going to be 17x7 but not sure about the rear. I want something nice and wide for the rear because the car is getting turbo swapped this summer along with a set of coilovers. Rolling the fenders isnt a problem either.

If possible i would even like the tires to look like they are stretched to fit the rims.

I also need to know some good offset sizes for the rims?

Pics of current setups of wheel/tire combos are good too.

Also dont want to break his bank so they have to be under about $600 for the rims new.

Stock suspension (or at least not coilovers)?

If so...
for the rear, 17 x 8 with a +20 offset and 245/40's will fill the wheelwell nicely and sit flush.
In the front, 17 x 7, +28-30 with 225's.

You should get wheels and tires that will work well with what you have now, not for what might happen in the future.
Besides, IMO much more stagger than the above makes the car handle wonky.

17x8~ 225/45 F
17x9~ 235/45 R
+35 all round, as per Rishie's fitment recipe which was mentioned above.

i was looking at some 17x7s up front and 17x9 in the back. Is that too wide for the rear?

As for going for what i have now i would love to but my philosophy is do it once to support everything if you can.

I do have a set of coilover in my garage to go on as soon as i get unlazy and get the garage cleaned and some camber plates

Dunno, I have stock suspension so I'm not sure how much room you gain with coilovers.

Again, I would caution against going too big on tires...no matter what your power output might end up being.
Obviously, the tire itself will weigh more and, unless you pop for really good ones, so will the wheel.
Handling will be adversely affected as will wheel bearing life and wet traction.

Also, don't forget (assuming it matters to you) that your speedo/odometer readings will be increasingly off.

Spending your money on higher quality small(er) tires will gain you more overall than cheap(er) big tires.

I would suggest buying the stock 91 TII wheels and put some 255 on the rears and 215 on front. I should have kept mine a long time ago, but now i kick myself on the *** for it. The FC just looks so perfect with them.

17" rims are a downgrade. 225/45/16 fit nicely in the rear and tires are easy and cheap to find used. 16" rims will also give a softer ride and be more resistant to deforming and or cracking when they hit potholes.

Larger sidewall. Tires are effectively springs. A longer spring has greater travel than a shorter one under compression.

Whats the desire for 17"s?

Accelerate slower, speedo will be off and increased ride high in which lowering will lower the travel for the tires and offset the suspension more requiring suspension work...

may as well put 20"s on it

btw I put smaller sidewall tires on my fc (a tad too small but most do whatever size I had) and my speedo was quite a few mph off...

cheaper tires and a bigger selection of tires. Before too long tires for 16s are going to be like getting tires for 13s plus i dont like the rims i have now and cant find rims i like in anything smaller than 17s

i got 17" sport max 006 wheels on my vert 17x8 +35 with 225\45 in front and 17x9 +20 with 205\50 in back the back has a nice strech the front looks super krappy my plan is to put the rear wheels in the front and buy 18x9.5 with 225\50's in the rear although two differnt sizes arnt for everyone if u want a new set of 17" wheels u need to decide the style of wheel u want then look for a brand of wheel that has that style in the right offset for u... u also need to decide if u want a flush look or a sunk in stock look it mite be a sin to tell u this but go on zilvia.net and look at the wheel fitment thread there are some sick looking rides on there its all up to the look YOU want...
