"Unbreakable" seals?

Just wondering how many of you guys are running these seals, i cant tell you what brand they are but i got them in my car, for the record i think any seal is breakable, and all it means is that if they let go its bye bye housing. But the mechanic says they tested them at 50psi on alcohol fuel and they were still fine

Are they goopy seals? howd you get some of those?? how are they workin out on your car? Theyre expensive (over 1k). I was takin to a guy from the goopy apex seals booth over at sevenstock and he was tellin me they should only be used for race applications. What kind of car do you have them on??

I want to see seals that can sustain pre-ignition and detonation and still hold boost afterwards. The fact that they went to 50 psi doesn't really mean much. EVery year it's a new band wagon. Years ago I remember how much of a hot item Hurley seals were. Then for a while it was Atkins. Now it seems that rotary aviation has the soap box. Either way...they'll all break. Choices are great, but why must we fall for every gimmick that gets put on the market.

Problem is its a fine line:

Too hard a seal = seals eating housings for lunch
Too soft a seal = seals wear too quickly/bend under heavy load/high rpms

If you want something indestructible..............................get an anvil

I've read about them, yes the wont break; but the will bend under heavy detonation. They claim you can take the apex seals out and "bend" them back to original.

heres a link to one of the places that sell them:

http://www.performancetestedseals.com/testimonal.html

I would also like to see that video.

I have them. Bruce Turrentine himself built my motor. I have personally spiked 20 psi twice, heard an audible "thunk" and it still keeps on truckin' . It still holds boost and I actually killed an STi about a week later.

Of course, I'm not expecting a whole lot of life out of my housings, but this is built more as a race car.

out of curiousity I emailed and asked a couple of questions, here are the awnsers:

Thanks for your e-mail, e do not know how long they would last in a street
car as they were never made just for street, but i can say they have done
30,000k and still going strong. the 2mm seals weight 8.8grams each and 3mm
13.2grams and are metalic. They do not wear on housings.
Cheers

its all about finding a compromise between (1) tough seals, longer engine life, and expensive rebuilds (new housings) or (2) softer seals, shorter engine life, but cheap rebuilds.

Ive got RA seals, and it pinged a few times when i first go it (not my fault!) and is still running strong. i have a much better (vs nonexistent) tune now

I could keep going because there are pages and pages of these topics. I just did a search for "rotary aviation seal".

For that kind of money you can get NRS ceramic seals. A far more proven option in my opinion.

No the seals werent that expensive at all. The whole rebuild cost me $4600 AUD which included

Labour
Extra Dowells
Extend Porting
"Unbreakable" 2mm Race Seals
A new housing
and they told me my old rotor was good on the phone and then found out it wasnt so they gave me a servicable second hand one for free

It was done by Dyson rotarys

www.dysonrotary.com.au

dunno if there is much info on there about the seals though, i think they were an extra 600 on top of what the stock mazda ones were
