turbo size?
turbo size?
okay, so I want to build my new turbo motor right. I'm going street ported ie. J port to save the money on gas, but I want a turbo that can give me d1 grade power.
I'm thinking Garrett GT40, seen as how most upgrade kits come with the gt42, BUT! a GT42 turbo is pricey and they take a lot to spool up, like max boost is comin in at 7,000rpm.
Any thoughts on this any tried and true turbo sizes?
oh and I'm looking for 450+hp

A J-port is NOT a street port and is probably the worst kind of porting you can do. They are highly unreliable as the water jacket quickly begins to leak into the engine. Also you aren't going to get more then 8 MPG in the city due to the overlap.
My personal opinion is that the 40R is too large for a street port. The 35R is a better choice.

). Of course that's just a drop in the bucket since you still need a full standalone, full fuel system, custom exhaust, large intercooler, custom intercooler piping, etc. etc. Figure close to $10K once all is said and done, not including the money spent to build the engine. And of course, you'll need tire and clutch to put that power to the ground.

I am very happy with my off-the-shelf GT4088R (1.06 hotside). Full boost well before 4K and it put down 387 to the wheels at only 13 PSI. 15-16 PSI should put the car well over 400 RWHP, which is enough for me at the moment (I don't think many people realise just how fast a 400HP....either at the crank or wheels...FC is).
