Exclamation Turbo Octane

I was just wondering what octane you guys use in your TII's. I know you need higher octane for piston engines, but you know these crazy rotaries!

93.

Detonation kills rotaries faster than you can say apex seal. I lost my first 13B to detonation.

I've been running 89, but it's been the cheapest for a while here and the 91 octane is often at least 20 cents MORE per gallon...

a bone stock Turbo II will do fine on 87. it was designed for it. once you start turning up the boost though you really need to run premium

Only difference between rotary and piston here is that detonation kills a rotary much faster. 87 is fine, but 89 or 91 is better. Even if there's no detonation now, it could be time for a new engine an instant later. #1 most common thing that blows a turbo rotary is detonation, though usually it comes from too much boost (whether intentional or from failing boost control). If you upgrade the power then definately go with higher octane, and retune it with a wide safety margin.
