turbo curiosity?

I was looking at some pics of turbo engines today and was wondering does the intake go directly to turbo then to the engine. so cone filter/afm -> turbo -> intake manifold ?
I always thought it was exhaust gasses that were forced through the turbo? chec out this pic

Yes. The exhaust gases are forced through the turbine housing only. The only thing connecting the cold/silver side (compressor) and hot/brown side (turbine) is the shaft, no air is exchanged through them. The purpose of the turbine wheel is to use the air exiting the engine to spin itself and in turn the compressor wheel on the opposite side acting as a pump.

The front half of the turbocharger sucks in air, compresses it, and sends it to the engine. The back half of the turbocharger is fed engine exhaust gas which powers the turbine of the turbo.

See picture here. Ignore the exhaust gas cooler.
