Any aftermarket turbo kit you find is going to be for a TII. High compression would limit the amount of boost you'd be pushing. Fuel would have to be dead on. As far as intake and exhaust ports matching up, im gonna wait for someone else to respond, cause I don't know

But i'll be the first to say, just sell yours and get a TII.

Not only would you have to PRECISELY monitor boost and make sure you are running rich enough, you would have to fab up a turbo intake that is pressurized, and along with the turbo you would need a blow-off valve, turbo boost/pressure sensor, and many other little things to get it just right. Besides, the N/A transmissions are not up to the task of handling the extra power. Sorry to be pessimistic, but josepi is right--save yourself a million headaches and get a TII.

If you can find a TII drivetrain, ECU, and wiring harness you can do a "factory" conversion. It's not too hard.

Please do a search of the forum before asking(the link is in the upper right hand corner). The turboing the N/A question comes up like twice a week.

You are better off to sell the N/A and buy a T2. You cannot run very much boost on a N/A due to the high compression rotors. I don't think anything over 5-6psi would be smart. if you want a turbo then GET A T2.

Talking

The TII turbo/manifold assembly will bolt right up to the 6 port NA block, but the ACV valve on the lower manifold interferes. The solution is to make an adapter that spaces the manifold out about 3/4" or so. You then need to get oil and water to the turbo, as well as make a custom downpipe. The intake piping is rather easy to deal with, and putting TII secondary injectors in place of your NA secondaries should be good until about 7PSI boost. If you want to go higher, you will need to probably deal with ignition retard, as well as better fuel control with a SAFC or similar computer. A boost sensitive fuel pressure regulator couldn't hurt either.

The NA transmission is not as strong as the TII unit, but will easily handle the power of a turbocharged NA.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing to my NA right now, except I am also making use of a FMIC and BOV. Still haven't decided where I am going to get the oil for the turbo though...(water is easy...just tap the heater hose).

If you want boost get a supercharger, you get that force fed air, and none of that dreaded turbo lag. I would say the only problem is the kit is going to run you anywhere from 2000 - 3000 bones ,depending on your mods (if any), which is more than you car is worth.

I was thinking about adding a supercharger to my car but i'm going to wait till she's not my daily driver. Then i'm going to supercharge my N/A.

P.S. - there is a thread on here right now that has been talking about a group buy on the supercharger parts, if you are interested.

Sigh, not this again. There are very compelling reasons to go with a turbo setup:

1. Efficiency. Simply more efficient than a supercharger
2. Adjustability. Boost is easily controllable with the twist of a ****, instead of switching pullies
3. Proven. The TII turbo is stock Mazda part that has been proven reliable. Easy to get, replace or rebuild. Most superchargers are one off kits, and we have all read the stories of horror that the owners of some Paxton kits when through.
4. Better match to the engine. A turbo is simply a better match to the high RPM rotary.

I'm not saying that a supercharger is bad, just that I think the turbo has definite advantages. And I doubt that turbo lag will be a problem, as we are talking about high compression NA engines here. These engines have enough low down punch to keep you happy in the small amount of time it takes a modern turbo to spool.

If it's an 89-91 TII then if you buy the whole car then all you need is to do the work. You'll have all of the necessary parts. If it's an 87-88 TII then you'll have all of the drivetrain parts, but you won't be able to use the computer. If you want to use an 87-88 TII donor without worrying about the stock computer then just get a standalone ECU.
