Question Turbo

OK I think that the T04 swap is going to be a big money pit. I will prob just sell it on Ebay or something. I was thinking that the 89-91 turbo could be a worthy investment. With the Hitachi(sp?) turbo now I get like 7-9 psi. Is the other turbo much of an improvement? Here is my mods.
If that wont help much who makes manifolds for turbo upgrades?

Thanks for the help

How much power are looking to get? If you're using the S-AFC then you can use an 89-91 turbo modified by Turbonetics if you use bigger injectors--720 cc will work. That should get you about 300 HP at high boost, say 15-17 PSI.

A TO4 upgrade will have alot more potential, but you'll need alot of upgrades to your fuel system: ECU, injectors, etc. You can use an HKS cast iron manifold. Jason sells them for $275, but they're usually backordered. InitialDFC makes stainless steel manifolds at a good price. If you go the TO4 route you'll need to make a downpipe and oil lines(coolant lines as well if you use a water cooled turbo). You'll also need to get an external wastegate. The stock BOV probably won't be enough. So you'll need a better one, along with a FMIC.

wow sounds like I will prob go with the 89+ turbo. Does turbonetics sell them or will I have to buy one and send it off to them. SO I will still need the 720s with the safc and walbro. I think that will be a much better route for me. 15-17psi that would be good enough for me. what will they modify and how much will it run me?

Any one wanna buy my t04 or trade?

I don't know how much it is worth. I know that you will need a new housing, man, all that other stuff mentioned b4.

I wouldn't go so high on the boost. I would stick with an ABSOLUTE max of 12psi on the stock intercooler. If you go to a Front mount then you might could go for 14psi or so... but I wouldn't run that unless you have your motor in good shape, and your fuel 100% accurate. Your car RIGHT NOW should run a solid 10psi IMHO with a good boost controller. Personally I consider 10psi to be a "safe boost" for the stock turbo / IC. Another thing to consider is that if you do want to go higher that you are really better off going with a bigger turbo, not a hybrid. The larger turbo will allow you to flow more air for a given psi. Alos be very careful if you do decide to go "high" on boost because with the factory sized turbo you will probably be putting out a ton of heat.

Good luck,

Turbonetics only modifies the turbo. They put on a new compressor and clip the exhaust housing. I remember it cost about $500 a few years ago. Bigger injectors and a better fuel pump should do ok, but like Brian_TII said: You'll need a FMIC to run high boost levels.
