turbo 2 seems like troubo 2

hello all,

I am new to this forum yet longtime rx owner.
I have owned 4 of these beauties since the mid 80's but this ones got me stumped.
A few weeks ago I bought an 88 turbo 2, 73,000 miles god shape, etc. I had to do a fair amount of work on it, new injectors, hoses, etc. It was running fine a few days ago.
Now when I start it, and it starts pretty good, it immediately goes thru the warm up thing, going to like 2000 rpm, etc. Then after maybe 5 seconds, I just lose power. It falls off slowly, then drops to zero and I hear a small bang from the exhaust manifold or what sound like a pop, backfire, not too loud but a sound like a small bang,a single cough, and that ends the starting session.

I tried to dance the gas pedal a little while it loses power, but the gas pedal seems totally limp, having no effect at all.

everything looks clean, tight and in its place.
I spent like 120 hours doing the installs, checks on all the sensors, everything, and triple checked.

Any advice or if youve had this same trhing happen, Id like to know.

I do have one question, the little silver check valve coming out of the air intake black funnel, {right below the air bypass line,} this hose goes to the purge system, and the silver valvehas an arrow on it, does it go to or away from the air intake funnel?

I have looked thru my microfiche, service manual, cant fing any reference..

thanks all, mack

Check TPS - try and error code scan.
I will eventually try and get the plates "TRUBO2" for my car when I get a real job.

The gas pedal is totally limp? Did you make sure that the throttle cable is connected? I had a similar problem when I had adjusted the throttle butterflys too much, and forgot to connect the throttle cable.
